Odyssey New Firmware 2015.8 - High Speed Apple ProRes and Color Vectorscope

Dear Friends,

Today we are releasing new firmware for the Odyssey7, Odyssey7Q, and Odyssey7+.

This is firmware version 2015.8 (August 2015)

This is result of over 10 months of work by our team.

Mr. Mitch Gross is currently conducting training, and will be available later today to respond to questions.

This is a very significant firmware release, as the ability to record from the Sony FS700, or FS7 with the XDCA, to an Odyssey7Q or Odyssey7Q+, with our FS700/FS7 Raw Option in HD at 100/120/200/240 frames per second frees those that want to record High Speed from having to record in Raw.

The file sizes are much smaller, the recording times are longer, and the files are in Apple ProRes 422, in HQ, Regular or LT.

And for the same cameras with the same setup, we now support recording 4K or UHD to Apple ProRes 422 at 50/60 fps.
This is very important for those that are shooting commercials, as well as many others.

And for the FS700, we now support recording 4K at 100 or 120 fps in Apple ProRes 422. These are in Burst Mode from the camera.

We now offer a very accurate, very fast, and fully professional Color Vectorscope.

Many more features will be coming in future firmware releases.

Please remember that we provide live, knowledgeable customer support 24/7 every day of the year.

FIXED 4K to 2K/HD Downscale Line at the bottom of image.
IMPROVED Color Bars
IMPROVED Odyssey Menu Font
NOTE:
Updating firmware on an Odyssey monitor/recorder requires the use of an SSD.

If an Odyssey monitor/recorder is currently running firmware version 5.10.100 (March 2015), 2015.5 (May 2015), or 2015.7 (June 2015) then a qualified Samsung SSD as well as an Odyssey SSD can be used to perform the update.

Samsung SSDs require the Convergent Design SSD Handle kit to mount in an Odyssey monitor/recorder.

Odyssey monitor/recorders running earlier firmware versions prior to 5.10.100 must use an Odyssey SSD to perform the update.

Awesome!!! That completes my FS700/Odyssey 7Q+ set-up perfectly. I've had the FS700 over 2 years and now it's like having another camera again. Thank you guys for all your hard work! Now to download and install....

sounds great! tried to download immediately, but unfortunately i'm geting an error message: [h=1]Forbidden[/h]You don't have permission to access / on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Fantastic! With this and previously the improvement to colour and support for LUTs the Odyssey 7Q has gone a couple big notches recently.

Dear Jonathan,

Thank you very much. I will let our team know about your kind comments.

This is a very serious team effort.

We have wanted to record HD (and 2K) at 240 fps from the FS700 (and later from the Sony FS7) to Apple ProRes 422 for a long time.
(2K at 240 fps will be coming out later, as this release supports HD at 100/120/200/240 fps.)

The 10 month's effort, of course, was very worthwhile.

I like to sometimes, step back, and think about what our team has accomplished, as these are major technological achievements.

We know of no camera, or other camera accessory that can record in Apple ProRes at 240 fps.

And we know that this is a huge technological challenge, but is extremely beneficial to our users.

When recording 2K at 240 fps, in 12-Bit Raw, one Terabyte of data provides 20 minutes of recording time.

When recording to HD in Apple ProRes 422, one has approximately 63 minutes of recording time.

-----------------------

Our Color Vectorscope is also quite an achievement. Our goal was the build a Color Vectorscope that could compete with any vectorscope, including those that cost many tens of thousands of dollars.

Among other things, our vectorscope has a very easy user interface for zooming.

1. To increase the Zoom, from 1.0x, to 2.0x, to 5.0x to 10.0x to 15.0x one just touches the screen and moves one finger upwards.

2. To increase the Zoom, in 0.1x increments, just move your finger to the right.

This is very nice, as when shooting a live scene, and not a chart, one may need to use our variable zoom, to see if the colors fit into the Color Target Areas.

These Color Target Areas can be at 75% or 100%, as desired.

¡Wow! CD rocks! Two amazing firmware updates in a row that push the Odyssey (and my aging FS700) much further. Can't wait to test the 240fps ProRes!
Thanks CD.

Dear Pierre,

Thank you very much! We appreciate your support.

Please note that we have two major features in work for our next firmware release.

One of these is a feature that no other monitor/recorder that we know of can accomplish.

I'm very happy with this update!! Have 1 issue so far that I'm sure I can work out. Haven't had the time as of yet to sort it out.

1. Video out of the 7Q+ with the 15.08 firmware to the Small HD502 with the new 2.0 firmware doesn't work with the SDI cables?

why only one SSD can be mounted for recording 2k high fps prores? is that possible in future firmware update can allow 2 SSD mounted but still can record 2k high fps prores?

Yes, took me a couple of minutes to work that one out - have to eject one of the SSDs to record 200fps HD ProRes. Not a big deal really.

CD got my issue sorted - as usual, dan was very fast and friendly at solving my issue (in that case it was my IP address being blocked from their system due to previous hacking, so i wasn't able to reach their website anymore). they unblocked my IP, done. thanks CD! That's what i call support!

Dear SrtBrad,

We will look into the problem you have reported.

Thank you for letting us know.

Update: 5:24 pm August 6, 2015, We are updating a 502 in our lab to the 2.0 firmware and we will attempt to duplicate the problem.
We will also test our Odyssey's HD-SDI output with other Monitors.

Dear Alan,

During our testing, leading up to today's firmware release, we uncovered a problem at very high speed Apple ProRes switching from one SSD to the second SDD seamlessly.

Our most expedient solution was to disable the automatic switching from one SSD to another.

We do expect to resolve this in the future.
