Odyssey 7Q Firmware 2.11.110

Mine isn't like that. It's a little green, but not way off like yours. I think you should call Dan Keaton as he really tries hard to get things done. The in-office Tech Support is not nearly as helpful as Dan.

If DNGs are an issue, try these settings and it should closely match 4K2HD

Project Settings > Color Science > DaVinci ACES

Camera RAW
1) Cinema DNG
2) White Balance = As Shot
3) Color Space = BMD FIlm
4) Gamma = BMD Film
5) Lift = 0
6) Gain = 0
7) Contrast = -20 (This is new to Resolve 11)
8) Exposure = 3.00 (on Resolve 10, it was 2.5, so maybe test it a bit)
Thanks, I'll try these settings.
I'm in the Middle East, so calling the US would be tricky with timing.

Also, did you try to reapply the Firmware? Same process like updating the FW, but from 2.11 to 2.11.

Can you describe what you exactly do in your workflow from shoot to post?

I see in one of your pics you have the LUT activated, this causes a purple shift on my unit too afaik. I don't use LUT's that often though.

Honestly, i don't mean to sound rude, but i think that the problem really is your workflow. When i view the RAW's via Quicklook, my dng's also seem underexposed, altough i exposed them correctly. All the dng's shot with the odyssey need a + 2.5 Exposure correction, 0.8 gamma correction and the normal fancy "BMD Film" selections in resolve to match what you were seeing while shooting.

These adjustments do not mean that you will introduce more noise in the image or whatnot. This has nothing to do with underexposure.

Yup, i tried to reapply the firmware the first time. And then I did the more recent update (2.10 to 2.11 i think... don't remember exact numbers)... same issue.

The thing is, all this worked as expected prior to this firmware. We're not just talking about underexposed when in Quicklook... the actual color changes as shown in the screenshots.
The project I'm working on currently is very go-go and shooting mostly shoulder-mounted.... so the LUT helps to see at a glance in usually direct light. Without it, the screen is quite reflective and hard to see.

As Stephan says, avoid the LUTs on the 7Q as you are doing. Also avoid the CD LUTs in post. Just use the settings above and it's pretty good in Resolve. I just leave it at S-Log. I just try to keep things as simple as possible, no LUTs, no REC 709. Only S-Log until final color and things work well.
I'll try out those settings... but I don't understand why this is an issue now when it was not before.

anyone feeling the excitement of the upcoming new firmware from odyssey? it is said by the end of september right? let countdown begin!

Heck yeah, been excited for the 4K compressed. Any word on the exact date yet? I'll guess the 29th.

Been waiting patiently since I got my 7Q in November, so yeah I'd say I'm looking forward to this finally coming lol

I am waiting since January for sth I've already paid for. So, no. No excitement but frustration for some time now.

No, if i am desperate for 100fps 4K i will just rent a camera. Thats cheaper than owning a sub-par solution that is very cumbersome to work with.

However if you mostly shoot 100fps 4K every day, by all means, go for it! :-)

Lol, sub par solution? Really? I think you're going a bit far with this statement. Since when is a camera that shoots 4k raw, 120fps, and Prores Sub par? haha. geez a new camera comes out (with a lot of similar features) and people are calling a great camera sub-par

pretty pathetic, afaic. always a camera dujour...and that's what Sony banks on....literally.

Well technically you're referring to a camera + a third-party accessory. The FS700 alone doesn't shoot 4K RAW at 120fps or do anything close to ProRes.

Meanwhile, to Martin.G's point, the new FS7 does 4K 60 compressed, HD180fps, and with the ExtUnit it will do internal ProRes (onto the same media.).

I think he was referring to running a big rig that requires you to power two devices, get extra (different) media, run cables, etc. as "sub-par". Not the resolutions/codec as being sub-par. And that's the big differentiating factor I keep falling into. I realize that the FS700+7Q can do a lot of the resolutions/framerates as the FS7, but the fact that the FS7 packs all of that ability internally is awesome. Plus way better ergonomics. And hallelujah they fixed the shutter angle issue (180º STAYS 180º regardless of frame rate! Like a real camera!)

I understand what you're saying and yes the FS7 looks great, not denying that. But for those who already own a FS700 + 7Q it's a great combo and to call it subpar is just ridiculous. This is a 7Q update thread, so let's just assume most people on here already own a 7Q or use one. Keep in mind the FS7 need an ext unit as well to do Prores and RAW which costs about the same as the 7Q itself, and you still need something to record RAW from the FS7 (if you want it, which many of us do) I'm not saying one if better than the other, they are both great systems. Everyone's needs are different and for me regardless of which of the two cameras I have I will need a ext monitor to properly focus in 4K so the added bulk of the 7Q doesn't matter much to me.

Let's not make this a which camera is better than the other camera disscusion, let's just not knock a camera that can do a lot of what the FS7 can do for less cost or the same and call it "subpar"

Oh, and yes, even though it is a small difference I would love to have the fixed shutter angle as well ;)

Hate to sound like a whiner, but i'm pretty sure when they said "September" we all thought "LAST day of September, i bet". Looks like that might be the case, if it even makes Sept. We'll be in October, if i would have known it would take this long and the FS7 was on it's way, probably would have just waited for it. Got me!

I'm a bit new to all this, so lesson learned. Don't buy stuff on the promise of future updates (ironically, the FS7 promises features through updates too).

Yet we all fall for it every time, myself included. But the FS7 does seem pretty legit.

Yes and it will be only HD Prores ... And when I renember that Sony sold to us a "FS700 with 4k update" ... Fortunately that CD developed the O7Q, because with the R5, it was of the big nonsense (price, bazooka, ...)

Talking about the external unit for the FS7 - if this is the right place? Prob not, but it's been mentioned so...

I don't get it - what does the external unit do to enable in-camera Prores recording? Is it just a big dongle to enable that feature in-camera or is there some additional processing power in the ext unit (my thoughts are that that is unlikely)????

Sony says:

A built-in Full HD ProRes encoding function enables ProRes-format recording to an XQD card in the camera
* Firmware update, early 2015.

I'm wondering that as well. Aesthetically, that back unit just really ruins an otherwise beautiful camera. Not sure why you just can't record with the 7Q through the on-board SDI outlets.

Personally, if Sony just wanted to make money off me, I would rather just pay them a $2000 fee to unlock the RAW and the Pro-Res than to have strap on that hideous device.

In fact, SONY IF YOU ARE READING THIS... I will gladly give you $2K just so I don't have to use that thing.

Also, the back attachment will require that you have 2 different sets of very expensive batteries - BPUs if you want to go light and V-Mount if you want Pro-Res or RAW. Super silly and a bunch of cash.
