Odyssey 7Q Firmware 2.11.110

how are you guys liking the playback now? any improvement there?

Scrubbing works while playing back and and not just while paused. All in all it seems quite a bit more robust then the previous version. I see no reason not to update. There's still some small bugs and weird stuff happening now and then. But recording has always been rock solid so I won't complain.

I'm liking playback. At first when I was scrubbing on the screen and it was mega jumps, I was like "semi useful". Im
sure it's in the manual, but scrubbing down on the line on bottom right, slower scrub. Great to have both.

ive had playback of 2k continuous raw cause the screen to go black multiple times. Unclear where it's at, nothing gets it back except for hard button power. (Can't hold shutdown for x seconds for clean shutdown which would be great). On restart , same thing, multiple times. Eventually after 15m it worked. It may have been a temperature thing, it was about 3deg c. (37f). (It was a slowmo snowball fight in Australia. 4-5 mins of snowball fight was like 200gb! It looks sic though! What a perfect use for that feature.

re playback, it was a corporate ski day shoot. Being able to hand 7q around the pub table at the end of the day (with eagle eye on it and the solid camera cage), and watch people react to the slomo with a lut, was golden. To put the raw together on a laptop and play it, was something very different it comparison.

so yes. Loving playback. I should upload some 4k2hd 50p samples, that is the only reason I had space for the snowball fight at hfr. Damn it looks good :) ungraded as yet, but let's face it, that's how this crowd may want to see it. Mixing with 7s footage as well, (internal), yet to see how that works out.

Hey Mitch,

Quick question as this was never made clear. Is it possible to have an electronic leveler on the 7Q? That would be very helpful for handheld shots.

Thanks

But would it show the 7Q level or the camera? It would only be as accurate as how you've attached the two together...

The way I have my 7Q attached is always 90 degrees perpendicular to the camera, so it would be really useful for me as it would indicated the level for both 7Q and FS700.

But yeah, if you have it on a Israeli arm or something, probably not much use.

I would love this as well. It works surprisingly well on DP7s if you have it rigged as Gene suggests. Which is how I have my O7Q rigged. Which is how all monitors should be rigged haha. Get rid of the israeli arms!

I shot a bunch of 4k raw 120fps stuff today and had some issues. On 90% of my takes the screen on the 7q would go black halfway through the buffer record. The only way to get it back on was to leave s&q mode or reconnect the hd-sdi cable. The 7q would usually recover the entire file just fine but some of them got chopped up. i was using the big sony L batteries at full charge. Anyone else have this happen?

No all I had was one cinecoil with me. I'll go through the motions tomorrow to narrow it down. I just wanted to see if it was a common issue as this was the first time I had messed with 4k 120fps.

I had that same issue with 4khfr a few weeks back right after the new fw, but my cd sdi cable didn't show up until a few days later (order was held up by sunhood). I've not had any issues with the cables I've been using in any other mode. But I'll be using the cd cable next time I shoot that mode now I have it.

Is there a way to corrent color tint on the monitor? Couldnt find it yesterday.

Used the O7Q as a pure monitor for the first time yesterday and its very visible that it has a solid green tint. I dont want to use it with what seems like wrong white balance all the time.

Are you sure it was the monitor? Not the camera or location lighting?

Yes, I have this same issue. The monitor is pretty green tinted. I know Convergent's stance is that it's more accurate color wise than the LCD, but I've done some tests and the onboard LCD is actually more accurate color wise as it's less green and more warm.

I don't believe there is anyway to change the color settings, or am I wrong? Kind of surprised by this.

Hi Mitch,

I'm pretty sure this has been asked, but I can't remember what the verdict was.

Can the 7Q add a grade to the S-Log footage while it's being recorded in real time / on-the-fly?

It's no fault of the 7Q, but the rec 709 and rec 800 that the FS700 puts out is terrible which is currently the only pre-graded options. I love S-Log, but sometimes it would be nice if it just came out of the 7Q graded. Nothing dramatic, maybe just some contrast and extra saturation. A basic LUT not just for monitoring; but for recording purposes in the 7Q.

Is this possible?
