October Red Update

If reservation holders would get more for their money that others, it might be because Red team wants to thanks those people for the trust they have put in Red project...

I don't mind getting more for my money! Heck if the price of Red goes up, my camera #362 increases in value.

I am concerned that news like this may push people who can't afford the camera to reserve one regardless, hoping to work it out later. Red will probably find themselves refunding quite a few close to delivery date.

Yeah, the camera never included a Viewfinder in the price. It was the flip-out detachable monitor, which is still included.

It's amazing to me how much people complain about the price. I remember when all the speculation was that it wouldn't cost less than $40,000. Now, $17K is just too expensive somehow. Please keep in mind that Sony's XDCam HD f350 costs $25,000 and is only 1/2" CCDs and 4:2:0 color space, no lens included.

But I've seen Advertisments where Jody Eldred is quoted saying "It's way too good.". and "...gives me a toolset that I never imagined having, especially at a price of $25,800."

Something tells me his imagination hasn't been working too hard if that's the case... :)

I think the price is the best thing about this camera. You can get the best quality without selling your house. It's like a dream come true, even though it's still a very high price and I don't have that at the moment.
So I sincerly hope it wont go up... down is good :D but not up.
If this is the price, it will kick all major labels asses and that is where my hopes are.

guessing - not until the camera spec's are locked down - which as of now is in december .. so sometime after that ?

Pretty sure I read somewhere that sometime in december they'll have a few models doing the rounds for thorough testing, can't remember where... I've got flu so everything feels like i dreamt it lol

I didn't realize that St. George had booze ;)

Yeah you have to bootleg it across the NV border or we just make our own moon shine. That stuff will but hair on ya. But I'll tell ya what it is the perfect thing with and RED screening and a cigar. :Drogar-Smoke(DBG):

ha ha yeah thats what the "really" was in there for.. sure it can be done, I have seen it done, but its not really a reality for most people without a $100,000 KG box or other super hardware.

The reason I am interested in this camera, is that it seems to have very wide latitude. And it offers the ability to interpret the raw data in an artistic way after it has been shot. This is what gets us closer to the magic of film. It's not the 4K resolution that's most interesting to me, but that it provides a wide scale of luma and chroma tonality that can be sculpted into something new and exciting.

Quite right. Although the 4K has its appeal for the future, too.

Jarred,
I have been out of the loop for a while. We were working on a project somewhere. It's nice to see that all the developments of red are coming together... I was a bit skeptical at first, but now i am believer!

Thanks.
