Oblivion

Holy ****- their front projection screen setup is so awesome, that might be the coolest thing ive seen in a long time. Im really looking forward to seeing this, BTW- the guy who did the motion graphics and UI gadgets in this film also made this video (no joke): http://vimeo.com/28501846

Hunter you're wrong.

The clip you linked is from the director's cut of Prometheus... that's what happens when one of the Engineers makes it here.

Prometheus finally makes sense!

I just had the thought, is Oblivion to Kosinski as Inception was to Nolan? An original film sandwiched between franchise reboot films? Batman for Nolan and Tron for Kosinski.

I hope I like this one as much as I liked Inception.

One thing that I find a positive here. (aside from the fact I like SciFi) is, (much like Densel Washington), You just don't see too many bad movies by Cruise. (at least I always find them entertaining, which is why I go to the movies...)

Inception was great.

Cruise did some dumb ones, like that one MI film (though that latest one was so good it almost makes up for it).

I'm somewhat curious about this movie (I also like Sci-Fi, when it is well done), but I don't think I'll see it in the theatre. I'll probably wait and rent it on iTunes or something when it is out.

I'm not inordinately excited about this one, but I do like Tom Cruise (except for Jerry Maguire and Mission Impossible II), and I really like good sci-fi movies. If this is what the trailers tell me it will be, I'll have fun and forget about it down the road. I'm okay with that, as long as the fun is there (unlike in MI:II). Tron was alright -- worth the rental, but not a buy. Still holding out hope for Kosinski's career, though.

I thought this was a solid film. Not great, not bad. Assembled out of familiar parts but executed well. Visually top notch. Enjoyed it more than Tron: Legacy.

i'm sorry, but this is a turd.

if i get too detailed about my issues, it'll be a spoiler fest.

it's just plot hole after long drawn out sequences, after forced plot devices. Yes, it looks very pretty, but i'm sorry to say that a pretty film does not a good film make. there's one just awkward as heck part with them swimming in their altitude pool which cuts to a wide side shot and the overture music kicks into high gear for no reason.

Nothing of the explanations make sense. I actually had my brain in off mode while watching this, and then got madder about the money i just spent when my lady was asking me what i thought, and i started realizing all the things that were just plain wrong with it. i would rant on, but it would basically tell you the whole film.

we were not pleased, not one bit. i'm sure some people will be amused by it, but i cannot call this a good film.

Oh, there was a reason. You got to see that girl naked. I'd say the overture swelled at the same time I did.

We knew the visuals would be good. Check.

The sound design? Wow. I felt like I heard some new sounds.

The graphics/interface design of their computers and HUDs? Amazing. Really nice stuff.

The music? Solid, and I like the way they bring it up loud at points. However, I did feel like it was a little unoriginal. In fact, oddly enough, one particular tune sounded strikingly similar to the score of Inception. (I think the final piece where they're walking out of the airport) Also, the beginning of Oblivion has that all too familiar single hammer note that Inception seemed to invent.

[ SPOILERS MAYBE ]

The bubbleship? HOLY CRAP. I want one. Nice action sequence when Jack is shooting at the drones and he flips the entire pod around and he gets a digital view of his rear to be able to shoot at it.

Costume design? I actually wish we got to see the "scavs" more. We see them without helmets a bunch, but those were sweet suits/helmets. Would've been fun to see more. I guess this might be part of the general "unoriginal" scifi buffet a lot of people felt like this film was assembled from.

Listening to the soundtrack on Spotify, I may have been mistaken. The tracks don't mimic Inception that much, just the one hit...but lots of people do that now. The big one note blast.

That said, I love cranking the track "Jack's Dream" because that is how they do it in the film and it has this great electronic orchestral quality that is really powerful when its loud.

Iif the new Star Wars captures the quality level of VFX that Oblivion captured, I will be really pleased.

I went in thinking this movie would be a lot like Sorcher VI by Tug Speedman but I was so wrong. Enjoyed it, was pleasantly suprised . Yes there are plotholes but nothing to major. Now to find the time to see it again.
