November in new issue of DV Mag

What? The movie December is coming out in November... no I mean, the movie November is coming out in December. I'll probably order it in January, and receive it in February, then watch it in March.

PS: I think dv.com is down at this time, strange!

I saw November on the big screen. Trying to support those DVX films :)

It was an interesting story and for the most part, the cinematography was good. The image held up pretty well. Couple of scenes did shout "These are the limits of video folks!", however.

Excited for the DVD...

Very nice article! Thanks for the link.

I saw it in the movie theater, and was extremely impressed that a DVX could produce images so clean on a 30' screen. It wasn't Braveheart, but it certainly didn't feel like a cheap movie.

Yeah, other than the darkroom scenes and some blownout walls in the stairwell, I thought it held up surprisingly well on the big screen.

That's a question I wanted to ask. Other then 28 Days, I have not seen DV footage on the big screen. How did November fair? I'd imagine better then 28 Days, since it was shot with an XL1 in frame mode.

I thought that overall it looked great. Much, much better than other DV films I've seen. It was completely acceptable, except for the saturated red shots -- those were just nasty 4:1:1 low-res blocky... but other than that, I thought it looked just fine.

barry, do know if that other film is coming out any time soon> Don't remember the name, but i think it was with liv tyler and one of the affleck's. If i remember corrrectly, you knew the dp or director.

The film "Fronterz" which I DP'd on the DVX will be in Blockbusters and on Starz in January.

I'm really looking forward to seeing this

Evinsky- Congrats on that man! Who picked up the film?

I just had a friend who was optioned by Lion's Gate Entertainment, and he had a blockbuster deal

Not to be crass, but could you guys give a ballpark figure on how much money these kinds of deals yield. I've heard from one source, a direct to DVD deal will make you only $10,000 - not even enough to buy one of the upcoming 2/3 chip HD camera offerings - while a premium cable station sale can make $150,000. Everything goes up of course if you're able to achieve even a limited theatrical release. Are these figures accurate?

Also, does anybody know if your more likely to get your feature released threatrically if you've shot it on prosumer HD compared to regular old mini-DV? I know it would look better blown up but does it make a difference to the distributer?

Congratulations Evinsky, what's "Fronterz" about? Don't tell me too much as I'll see it this January. Hey, did you have to use "name" actors? As always, it's cool when one of us low budget guys can break through.

Thanks, guys.

Congrats Evinsky. That's got to feel good. I look for it when it comes out.

PS- November only did $192k at the box office. I hope it picks it up in the DVD and/or overseas.
