Noisy Shadows

I just noticed some pretty active noise for the first time from my 60D. The shot was in the woods and the tree trunks in the background were very dark. I shot with Cinestyle 0,-4,-1, 0 so there was a lot of DR. Thinking back, it's possible I was on auto ISO because I was going from the sun to shadowed areas. I may have been stopped way driving the ISO way up.

My question is what is the best way to clean up the noise when it happens.

Neat Video plug-in = god

Another option is Red Giant Denoiser. The cool thing about it is that the preset works well. Just drag and drop the effect, done. With Neat Video, you have to analyze each clip... but the results. My god, the results. Really good.
 
Magic Bullet works pretty well... too. Either that or look into pre-post solutions lighting/faster lens. :P
 
You should be able to find a setting in the menu so that auto ISO has a maximum ceiling. I set mine at 800
(noise is caused by high ISO)

I shoot Cinestyle 0,-4,-1, 0. Cinestyle has worked out very well for me. Personally there are few situations I would go anywhere else. I don't use a curve, just basic + contrast and usually lowering the brightness which gives me great DR in grading. The curves have usually blown out the contrast in the shots. This is the first time I have seen any noise.
I think I just was not aware the camera was still set on auto ISO. I was running from full sun to deep woods following my kid and the light was changing like 5 stops. It probably was at f16 and then in the shadows the ISO shot up to 1600. I should lower the max to 800 for sure. I will go back there and do a proper test to see if it was the camera or my fk up.
