Noise? Really?

I dont really see anything out of the ordinary or any noise for that matter.

Me neither, the images look good.

Remember, we're talking about a highly compressed $3,500 camera. It's quite good for the price range, but it's not a Red, F35, or HPX3700.

Images look clean, I am going with added noise from LCD monitors... My 43" DLP never shows any noise - even with some gain...

Not to hijack the thread, but I'm not sure if I have a noise problem with my HMC150 either. I did a side by side shot with my HV30 and I think the HV30 had less noise, even when using the lo-noise setting from Barry's cookbook. Not sure the best way to upload such a big video, any advice is well welcomed.

Both your images look great , exactly how my HMC150 looked when i had it.

I was probably the same as you when i first had my 150, coming then from a dvx100b i expected razor sharp crystal clear HD images ... Its not a full raster imager but it is a lot better than the DVX and the video artifacts are definately better than HDV.

I cannot see any noise in your pics on my 20" samsung monitor they look nice and clean :)

In my experience I found that in low light the hmc 150 produces less noise then XHA1 or HV30...but in pretty good conditions , the right exposure, ega during broad daylight the xha1 and hv30 is pretty much noiseless. Where as my hmc still show some noise pattern here and there. Especially on clothes with a certain cotton texture. It's almost like the codec cant handle it. Havent seen this on XHA1/Z1U/JVC 200 /ex1 etc

Now most of what I shoot ends up in Standard Defintion being played back on "traditonal" crt monitors which looks so very HD clean and sharp.Playing back mpeg2 files/ dvd 50 inch plasma tv also gets me a very goodlooking image...and that Pana mojo I wished my 7d had. The way the hmc 150 handles reds it looks so sweet. That is just something that Sony and Canon hasnt even come close .

So it 's noisy, expose it right and it will be considerably less noisy ....even low light scenes need a decent amount of light .

If I had to choose again Im I glad went with panasonic.
