No flip screen on the HVX

Barry, I saw your inquiry over at DVinfo and the report back from XL-H1 owners that it does NOT flip with the stock lens attached. Man, that is perhaps even worse. You know "something's" there, it was even closer to being a reality, and... NOPE!

Yeah, that was disappointing -- I was hoping that they changed it inbetween resfest and release. But seriously, with the SG35 "Flip" adapter and dan's forthcoming flip adapter, this should become a non-issue... hopefully someone will get one of those soon and submit a report so we can find out how well they work!

Well if the adapters themselves can fix this issue before it even hits the CCD's then that's a whole different story. Fingers crossed because (so far) this camera is the holy grail of pro-sumer level indi film making and I REALLY REALLY want one (that suits my purposes).

IMPORTANT: This will NOT work. I wish it could, but a mirror only flips vertically, not horizontally, so your sense of vertical reality will be accurate, but you will be guessing if you should go left or right, unless you can fix your brain to think "left is right, right is left". I'll be getting an on-camera TFT monitor real soon. :)

I'm going with turning the camera over and standing on my head. Might be a bit of a problem for steadicam work though . . .

If in fact the HVX does not allow flipping of the screen, than I'd be really surprised. It makes me want to question if they were even listening to our requests to begin with.

flip built into the adapter

flip built into the adapter

I believe the reason for not having the flip built into the g35 adapter was a light loss issue.

Well, it's not just light loss, but I believe it's mainly because of the cost in having the adapter flip the image itself -- that's one main reason why the mini 35 is so expensive, as compared to all the other adapters after it which are much less expensive.
