GH5 No audio for first seven frames of each clip?

The GH have this video sound sync difference,i dont know if all other micro four third models do[presumably so]also the Samsung NX1 i ont own one,but as i said i never had it with any of the many other cameras before,it does add a lot of work if the nasty sound like on the youtube film are to be avoided.

On my GH5 there is no sync issue. Audio is in sync it is just not there for the first 7 frames( no noise, zero volume ) thereafter it is in perfect sync and of good quality.

Ok i will refrese,my GH5 has no audio for the first 0.7 of a sec or seven frames, its not a sound sync problem.

Yeah the audio is in sync throughout the clip, just nothing for the first ~7 frames. Confirmed on my GH4 and GH5.

No updates on a fix for this? Just shot about 40 minutes of footage this morning and still having the same issue.

Is it possible that the way they are encoding the file can't pack the audio in until the first P frame? Or maybe the second I frame? (just guessing)

Not that I know of.

I find it rather embarrassing that Panasonic is not providing a fix for this given that this problem is known for such a long time.

While it's not a "fix", there is a very easy "workaround". It's always a good idea to give you some "editing room" and pre-roll at the beginning of a "take" then after "cut" let the camera run a few seconds. This has saved me on many occasions by giving me added flexibility in where to trim to the "in point" and the "out point" of each clip. I usually pre-roll for about 10 seconds and this totally eliminates the 7 frame no audio issue.

Interesting, I'm working on a feature film at the moment with 2x GH5 and post has reported back that timecode (using Tentacle Syncs) is 7 frames out of sync, am guessing this is related to this thread's discussion here.

Good advice.

In the old days working with Nagra recorders, audio was always started first and when the recorder was at speed, the image recording would commence.

I understand that today with SS recording that is no longer a requirement. But I just wonder if there is a delay inherent in the process of synchronization.

Are you using external TC input, or using an audio channel for the TC?

For what its worth Panasonic bridge cameras behave in the same way, while allowing time at the start of clips is a kind of fix it is time consuming and editing with cameras where this sound blip is not present is less time consuming.

I absolutely have adopted this practice where possible. But some shots come out of nowhere (I'm in the traffic industry and traffic is sometimes is very unpredictable) and suddenly there's no audio at the beginning of the clip. Not a HUGE deal, as the workarounds here have mentioned, but still a nuisance nonetheless.

Is this still being discussed? I have never in twenty+ years ever shot anything that was intended to be used on the very first frame. Even in fast paced run & gun situations where sometimes the camera didn't start fast enough and I missed some of the action I still wouldn't use the very first set of frames. 7 frames on 30p is 1/4 of a second. Pretty sure thats not going to make or break a shot unless I royally screwed up and wasn't paying attention.

Yes it is annoying but thats all it is. Just an annoying issue and nowhere near a show stopper.

Well they are 2x GH5, not the GH5S, so Aux TC is the only option.

For me it is not about using the first few frames or not, it is the fact that the video ends up being out of sync. At least it is a consistent offset.

Who the hell ever intentionally designs audio to have a delayed start????

No question at all this is a bug!!

Although yes, this could be a bug they already have known about (and ignored :-/ ) for a long long time. Doesn't change the fact it is still a bug.

Of course it is, a implementation bug, a design bug, whatever you want to call it.
