C300: No 4K 60P on C300 Mk2?

I have to shoot a project for Discovery Channel that requires 4K 60P. Reading through its specs the C300 Mk2 doesn't seem to do 4K 60P. Really?

It can't record 4K 60P internally. But I think it's able to output from the SDI out 4K 60P RAW.

Also, what your talking about with Discovery is their tier 1 requirement. We just went through this with a production company and Discovery....it's almost ludicrous that Discovery, who a large portion of their shows are reality based, to require big boy 4K at 60p....enormous amount of data, especially with this particular show that uses 35-40 cameras... just imagine the amount of storage that would be needed. With that in mind, and the fact that this particular show is in somewhat of a "grandfather" situation with Discovery, they decided (because of cost) to hold off on the 4K/60p for this current season.

What is it, about $13,000 total with the Canon Raw license?

He did not say if he is renting or if buying used is an option. A used C500 is about $8k right now. I'm sure you can get a full working rig with RAW capability for under $10K....so yes...thats $6K less than a C300II not including the cost of Cfast.

The C500 is still a fantastic looking camera. For me...it would be a question of if you want the auto focus feature, slightly smaller form factor...and a claimed boost in DR. Those things are worth considering. If money is the driving factor, its a great option to have.

If productions are asking for something it would be in Canons best interest to make it happen for C300II owners. I've been shooting a mix of 4K 60p on projects over the last year. Overcranking is a tool needed in the tool belt these days and as more 4K is asked for they will want 4K overcranking.

Yes, yes....and yes. I would hope they would see the light soon...even if it is only external.

1DX Mark II shoots 4K 60p. Get it as a b-cam to the C300 Mark II.

It would be interesting to see how well these to camera cut. One with C-Log and one without.

Does anyone have any idea is a feature like C-Log can be implemented by firmware...or is the 1DXII not capable because of its hardware?

While not ideal, I don't see it being much of an issue considering the enormous data rates that the mk ii is capable of recording in. Lower end DSLR's have been used on major movies for years and intercut just fine. From what I've seen thus far the color out of the 1dx ii looks very impressive!

The C500 outputs 4K60p and this can be recorded by the Odyssey7Q+. The Odyssey7Q+ is currently on sale for $1795 and the Odyssey RAW Bundle which will allow the recording of the Canon Cinema RAW is on sale for $795. The Odyssey7Q+ also comes with an included 256G SSD. This sale is in effect until the end of April.

The C300mk2 is limited to 4K30p both for internal recording and RAW output. It is technically not possible for it to output 4K60p as that would require a dual-link 3G-SDI connection just like on the C500. The C300mk2 only has a single 3G-SDI output.

Couldn't they use the monitor SDI terminal as the second 3g SDI out? It can output a 4k raw signal with the Rec out simultaneously

So, $2,600. C500 is now $10,000, making this pretty close to $13,000 for the package, once you add the local sales tax and Mitch's cut.

Seems a lot of jumping through hoops when you could just buy/rent an FS7 ?
I have been wanting to buy a FS7 for while but just waiting for NAB and see if Canon come out with good news, doubtful though... I'd rather stay in Canon's camp but they are now outpriced and outspeced by Sony :(
