Nikon Zeiss on 7D

Hi,
I've got a Zeiss ZF 50mm 1.4 (nikon mount) lens that I absolutely LOVE. I use it on my Letus and have been thinking of using it on a 7D (which I don't have yet). I have a rebel XT which is also the cropped sensor, and I tried putting the Zeiss on there with a $15 adapter. It kind of worked, but not perfectly. When the camera's light meter would show the bar in middle (proper exposure) the picture would be way two bright (like 2 stops bright). Why is this?
Should I just sell my Nikon mount Zeiss and get a Canon mount one?

I found you have to use the far left of the meter on the 5D, and when it just stops flashing (when flashing it means its gone further to the left ) as 0 . It works this way for me with all my ZF's.

Hmm. Interesting. Yes, that is what I've found to be the right exposure also, which I think is 2 stops. Any clue why this is? It doesn't make sense to me. I find it frustrating because what if you want to underexpose by 1 stop, for example?
