Nikon User Thread

The whole reason I went with the D200 is because - for about 1400, give or take, I could get the D80. Then I found the ad in craigslist for the D200 that I bought with the 17-55 f/2.8 and said screw it... for an extra 800 bucks I get the better camera and a really nice lens...

Seaking of lenses... Jeremy, what lens are you using on the D200 for you to say that the image is a little soft? Just curious...

I have a lot of glass. In general the D200 is a soft camera because the AA filter isn't as tuned up as other Nikon D-SLRs.

If you compare an image out of the D50/D80/D40 to the D200 the D50 line will look sharper.

Trust me, it isnt an issue of glass just how Nikon tunes their cameras.

Did they do that because of the fact that the D50/D40 and D80 are aimed more at the consumer and they expect that someone who shoots with a D200 would process the image after shooting?

Then again, for people like Brandon who like shooting primes, if you had $1200 you could:
35 f/2: $200
50 f/1.4: $200
85 f/1.8: $300
180 f/2.8: $500

Screw it... the A's just tied this game, I'm pissed and not typing anymore.

That sealed the deal for me right there.... invest in good glass... good idea. That 85 f/1.8 looks tempting! I may have to save up for something like that!

Hey any of you guys know how to change your camera setting on the Nikon D70s to shoot black and white or should I just save it for PS?

You can't change the settings to shoot black and white... if it were me I'd want to do it in PS anyway... for the control.

Just be extra sure that you don't blow your whites or crush your blacks at the time you take the color picture. In another words, don't push your meter up the way you normally would... I'd shoot at 0.0 on the EV push.

That way it's easier to create the sharp, contrasty look in photoshop that makes black and white photography look so good (when it's done right).

I appreciate the feed back. I need to really hit on Adobe because i am kinda rusty on that! I will give it a try!

BLAMMO!

Stunning.

Each time you post a pic I feel like it should have one of those old Batman action balloons as you drop it on us.

Now I can come back ath this thread, cause my wife will think I'm looking at porn. heh.
By the way are this photos "playing" somewhere?

Maybe you should offer to make some artistic shots of your wife. That's not a bad idea. My wife would kill me though if I posted anything like that. (Don't let that discourage you though Bayne!)

Shot of my wife from last year.
