Nikon Press Conference July 30th/August 4th

Maybe a firmware update! but most likely new cameras....I dont know that I like Nikon so much. I bought one brand new camera not out for a month and then poof lets release more and forget about the old ones.

I've heard they want to dive into the dying market of miniDV camcorders with non interchangable lenses, you know, for tourists and stuff. Revive the tape!

If it´s not just another silly joke by nr it could be worth waiting for... yes, for what? A firmware update for the d90 containing full manual control and a better codec implantation? Would be great but i don´t think so. Most likely at least 1 camera with an improved video mode. So i´ll wait a few weeks with the hopes to get a few more details - otherwise i´ll snatch up the gh1. It´s so hard to wait...

A d90s that has anything beyond my d90 with a firmware upgrade will likely end my relationship with Nikon.

D90's are still on back order at B&H Photo. Selling a lot or just not making many?

I am hoping that they are just waiting to announce the D90 firmware update at the conference, as Canon did with the firmware update for the 5D. Not holding my breath. If not...oh well, I guess I'll persevere. At least until the Scarlet fixed lens edition comes out. IF the Scarlet comes out...

I agree that if they released a d90s I would instantly jump ship. I am a big Nikon fan, but they are letting me down on the video end of things, granted they are still DSLRS for photography and not video, but the 5d is kicking ass and taking names. Mind you it would seem easier for Canon to release something awesome before Nikon, as Canon has been in the video Game for a long time.

I am really hoping the d300s has some serious improvement over the d300 as a still camera as well as serious improvement over the d90 in the video department. AKA faster read reset, manual controls and for the love of god a better codec...avchd? Mpeg 4?

Time will tell.

I doubt that Nikons will use AVCHD - you have to license it from Sony/Panasonic I think.
So we're stuck with MJPEG or some MPEG variant.

pretty cool for what??? whatching 12 M pixel picture at VGA resolution? ....good for kids for 5 minutes ...

People mostly buy Nikons to take pictures. Not to cater to a very small group of indie filmmakers. But I think Nikon needs to improve the video because I can see more news people wanting video for online. Nikon will come around at some point but it will be in the time frame.

And really if done right the D90 as put out some awesome looking films. It just would take to much to make better. I was ready to buy something too.
