Nikon Head: "highly probable" with full-HD in Nikon SLR

mjpeg really is great, but only at high bit-rates.
Nikon does depend on Sony for sensors but they are aware that it's not the best position for them abd I'm pretty sure their heads are smoking as how to change that.

For A/B cam issue, some dvxuser (can't remeber who) did shoot awesome music videos with the D90 and it was screened on MTV Canada, so it's about what sector you're aiming for, imo many vDSLR, even as limited as they still may be, already offer greater advantages than disadvantages for this sector than most professional digital cameras.

In no way is mjpeg better than h.264.
MJPEG is much easier to edit. It needs a much higher bit rate though. H.264 is just more efficient. So, it can be a lot smaller in data rate with just as good or slightly better results. But give me MJPEG at a high data rate and I would be happy.

Unlike Sony or Canon, Nikon don't risk damaging sales of their pro-video products by introducing a pro-quality, full frame, 1080P DSLR.

Nikon are in a great position to release disruptive products and to claw back market-share from the competition.

With this nascent technology Nikon could produce game-changing, imaging products in a small form-factor.

Much agreed.

Nikon is where Canon was when they introduced their video cameras- no need to concern themselves with out-shining their own products.

I really, really hope that a viable and relatively mature Nikon VDSLR (18mp sensor) is on the horizon. I am so thrilled at this prospect, as is my bag of nikon optics. :-0. If and when that occurs, my Brevis and most likely my HPX-170 will be for sale.

Just get me a Nikon with 18mp, 1080HD, (full controls) longer record times and I'll be happy.
Hopefully Nikon does something really good so Canon has to play catch up again. Something like a built in IS system. The DSLRs need it.

I think 4GB file size is the max if Nikon will use FAT file system. 4Gb means aprox. 12 min. It is more than enough for me.

I dont know about d300s and d3x... anybody??
d90 has 5 min limit because of the overheating.

Video RecordingYes
Video Resolution1280 x 720 @ 24fps, 640 x 424 @ 24fps, 320 x 216 @ 24fps
Video Clip LengthHD: about 5 min
SD: about 20 min
Audio RecordingAudio with Video Only

Just the limit even if it doesn't overheat. The D300s might not have that problem.

Someone can explain better than I can why. I just hope it is changed in the next model.

February 9th at midnight...or a couple more months?

I feel like this might happen soon. I am hoping for a 7d-ish price. We will see......

I would like to see that too. Under $2,000 with 18mp, 1080HD with full controls. I would rather have DX too. FX will push it up to $3,000 or more and not sure if my 17-55 lens would even work on FX.

Hopefully they will get beyond using the lame-ass mjpeg compression as well.

The only thing wrong with the mjpeg is the bit-rate. On the D90 it averages about 15mbps and goes as low as 7mbps. it's less efficient than H.264 but who cares about efficiency? Long gop sux arse, the macro blocking in solid coloured and under exposed areas is really ugly. Mjpeg at around 100mbps used to be broadcast standard capturing betacam. Just have a look at the resolution of a medium-high quality jpeg still which is roughly comparable to a frame @ 100mbps, it looks filmic and almost as good as raw especially at 24fps.

When you are writing continuous frames to a CF, efficiency is everything.

It's not like he saying it will be out soon. They ask him if it will plausible so see 1080p in Nikons DSLR in the future? And he answer I can't guaranty nothing but if I speculate myself I think that there will be and people can chose from different formats. They don’t toast him about the big advantage Conon have and the slack of video mode in Nikons DSLR's
