Nikon D3100 D-SLR

Very interested to see what the 60D will pack now? Thats a great price for all those features. If nikon is bumping up their base line with video features like that the. I also can't wait to see what they put in their top tier stuff.

Hmmm... maybe I won't bail out from Nikon quite yet.
24p @ 1080
24 or 30 @ 720
CMOS sensor for less rolling shutter
Faster focus

I wonder if its still restricted to mjpeg?
If they add 60@720 and 30@1080 along with a robust codec then I'll be a happy camper (and, of course, full manual controls)!

Overall it seems like they are making steps in the right direction. I'll keep my GH1 for now, tho.

on http://imaging.nikon.com/products/imaging/lineup/microsite/d-movie/en/ What was that clip for 3100?
I just can't understand why they put up so crappy movies on their homepage. Just about every shot was overexposed. I know Nikon prioritizes still pictures but this is ridiculous. The clip is like a anticommercial for their videofunction. Colorful moments? overexposed colorbleeding would have been a better title. If they want a slice of the canon vdslr market they don't need to make cool laforet movie but they don't have to make a "I'm a clueless soccer-mom/dad that doesen't know what I'm doing"-movie either. Well at least they are managing expectasions this is exactly how it will look at home of every clueless homevideographer :). As a professional, promotional material like this just makes me angry it was even worse than sonys promotional video for their new palcorder dslr which considering the beautiful scenery needed a master to destroy.

Oh wow. I'm dying laughing here. Overexposed, varying exposure and painfully obvious focus seeking in that video sample. So sad and hilarious at the same time that they would make that video public on their site.

They'd better have a pretty optimized codec or that will be a disappointing bitrate...
Yes, but it can be enough for static shots, establishing shots, for example. It will depend on the amount of detail to handle with.

This is useful:

AF-area modes for live view and movies - four AF-area modes depending on the subject: normal-area AF, wide-area AF, face-priority AF, and subject-tracking AF.

You're right. But don't forget this is a consumer camera targeted for people who shoot like you see.

On a positive note, I didn't see much skew in the hand held stuff as compared to the D90.
Click the exposure down a couple notches, take the thing off 'vivid' & would this have been as bad?

A second one, it looks better comparing with the other D5000 sample for example, despite the shooting circumstances between both clips.
