Nikkor 50mm 1.4 AI-S vs AF-D

Does one lens have better IQ over the other? Having a tought time deciding between the two. The manual focus is cheaper and has an all metal body but the AF-D is a little newer.

And what about the focus ring. Does the AF-D keep the smooth feel like that of the AI-S?

The AF-D has somewhat better optics (sharper and more contrast) but it would only matter wide open. For video it on an HDSLR you wouldn't see it, even at f1.4.

The focus throw is less on the AF-D, making manual focus more difficult.

I'm testing and reviewing the 50mm 1.4 AI-S on my website next week and I'll give a summary of my views here on lens discussion.
