so my dad was formerly a nikon guy (i was by default, too), but i recently got a 7d. although i converted, he is kind enough to let me use his old lenses.

however, i noticed that the 24mm has a bit of a "lip" at the bottom of the lens, and it looks almost like it might get in the way. i doubt it would, but i don't want to eff up my body just to save a buck or two on lenses (obviously its good glass, too..).

here is a picture (i realize the irony: a terrible picture of a good lens. i just used the webcam)

i think you can sort of see the lip i'm referring to.

i should also clarify that i have already ordered an adapter for it. i am solely concerned about that little lip.

is this better than the canon version?

What do you lose by using it? AF, Metering? etc...?

I sold all my nikon glass when i got my 7D. BUT, after using the canon 50mm 1.8, i see how inferior it is built quality wise to the nikon equivalent.

Im considering getting an adapter and stocking up on some more nikon stuff

You lose AF, but you actually keep, or in my case gain, Metering.

I had a Nikon D90 and a Nikon 28 2.8 Ais that didn't meter on it, got the Canon 7d and cheap ebay adapter and it meters fine, kinda guessing on the focus though- but you train your eye after awhile.

I sold my Nikon 50mm 1.4 to get enough money to buy the 7d and a canon 50mm 1.8, and although it's fine image wise it's the stankest piece of crap for manual focusing.
