NFL - Large Sensor End Zone Cam... Your Thoughts?

Might want to check your settings...there is definitely 4K face-tracking AF in video (don't remember if eye-AF is in there but think it is in 4K as well).

There are camera modes that won't allow you to use it though.

[There's also some smartphone control setting that needs to be off in the menu...something like that, IDR.]

It's not really unheard of for broadcast to have a dedicated focus puller. I'd think this had a dedicated focus puller with the broadcast camera.

They're singing the song "Shallow" but the depth of field with that broadcast camera is not shallow.

Charles, is the fancy bearded guy pulling focus here or is that just to help with the live transmission feed? When did wireless focus pulling first become available?

Wireless video feed. Notice him keeping the "horn" pointed towards the front of the venue where the receiver is probably located.

If they’re using RIVs and shooting 4K, the AF only works as zone... face, eye, and touch spot AF aren’t available in 4K modes. It’s a downside.

For the live streaming clips, they're shooting 1080.

But, with the player helmets on, they should/would be shooting in "zone' AF anyway.

FOX is doing it during the Busch Clash tonight. They've had some bad fails, so far. A friend just sent me this one from pre-race(race was already going on when I tuned in).

It is not like these types cameras have not been around for a long time. And the current generation is killing it on AF. Get with the program! :)

Yeah this is really what you don't want. a scenario where a green op could outdo the fancy machine. Take away the mask though and it would nail it.

Also I feel like if they're gonna cheap out and get a stills camera, they should really get the latest and greatest AF bodies

Just texted with a friend down there. It's a "little Sony camera". Probably Fx6/FX9 on a Ronin S. I know the op, but have not talked to him. One of my friends down there said he talked to him and he had not touched the camera before and only got it built-up about an hour before the race.

:Drogar-Shock(DBG): :violent5:

I spent way more time testing out autofocus modes before I shot my first wedding on autofocus which was not live and had multiple cameras and a manual remote focus system ready to go mid-shot in case of failure lol

But the big difference... It was your gear. Almost any of us would test out a piece of gear and try to familiarize ourselves with it and it’s operation before using it “for real”.

I’ve known this guy for at least a decade or longer. It’s not his first rodeo. And he’s been doing live gimbal work for years, too. It sounds like he was put into a bad situation. Or as I like to say, “set-up to fail”.

yeah believe me i'm not blaming him

One of the best pics I’ve seen, so far.

They did handheld behind the QB in the original XFL.
Right- XFL. Thx R&G, I knew it was one of the "other" FLs... Crazy stuff.

And I stand by my "worst decision" verdict. Though I, too, love the game, NorBro, I can't not see the lost focus...

I regularly work in both fields and as someone who shoots live TV (and corporate, doc work, and events) as well as drama, commercials, and features, I don't look down upon myself, nor have I ever implied those who work in the same field as myself are inferior for working in the same field I work in. Again, you're making no sense.
And your jokes, Coughlinisms, or whatever they are, aren't funny. They're often immature and childish, actually.

Gird yourself if you feel you must, but I'm not attacking you, just stating the truth, and probably a majority view.
There's an entire "Oh, that's Eric being Eric" sentiment among many Users re some of your comments. (Note I said some, not all).

Feel free to be yourself, but a good share of Users find you (or what you write at least) annoying, Eric. Not elitist.
You asked "Why?" to JP, but I'm just sharing 2 cents of truth here, trying to be honest...

PS- I'm happy for you getting a house you like.

take a zone focus/assisted manual approach.

I figured it out. They have face zone focus and eye zone focus. But not end zone focus. Coming next firmware update...
(feel free to critique my humor Eric, I won't consider it an attack).

I get that. Some people appreciate my humor, others find it annoying. I clearly think most of my jokes are funny otherwise I wouldn't make them. You stating they are not funny is your personal opinion and not a fact. I could stop making attempts at humor to appease those who don't like it while perhaps disappointing those who do like it. It's not like my posts are only humor as I have many serious posts that are contributions, have shared technical knowledge, experiences, and my work, and often put seriousness in my posts which also have humor so a post doesn't just come across as humor spam alone. It's not like I'm the only person making or attempting to make jokes on a forum that is meant for serious posts only. If you're allowed to make jokes here as you just did, then I'd think I should be allowed to as well, even if my humor skills are theoretically not up to your level. I mean, I'm kind of getting from you, "I'm funny so I can make jokes but you're not funny so you should not make jokes." Seems kind of biased.

Something to keep in mind with jokes that one doesn't find to be funny is it shouldn't be that difficult to just not pay them heed and move on with your life rather than taking great insult to injury that someone wasted 20 seconds of your life here or there by having you read a joke you didn't find to be funny. I sometimes got annoyed by JCS's constant posts about how theoretical future technology would out-date us or this or that, and maybe I'd mentioned that once if that, but I didn't go around constantly criticizing him for his every post on the matter just because I occasionally found it annoying. It's not that difficult to just bypass reading posts that aren't of interest to you, even easier to do on an online forum than in real life. And it's not like my intentions are to ruin people's days with lame jokes because I try to make them as funny as I can, which doesn't mean I always succeed in making them funny, but the intention is good and is not to bore and annoy people.

Like you said, I'd like to be myself, and when talking online, I often like to add what humor I can think of to make it more enjoyable for me to converse online as well as hoping others find my posts funny or enjoyable as well. Obviously not everyone appreciates it, but I think some do, especially those who have private messaged me in the past particularly stating they appreciate my humor on the forum. As I'd said before, I can take some criticism here and there, but I've taken issue with JPNola's repeated criticism of every little thing I've said, of which many of his criticisms I did not find to hold good sense or logic (nor were they all related to me having made jokes), but were as far as I saw it merely personal attacks based on his being annoyed at me for other things not related to the excessive posts he was criticizing me for. At a certain point, to quote Samuel L. Jackson, "Enough is enough."
