Next Gen DVD Race...where are we?

They both suck, and we're all screwed. :(

HDCP is only going to make piracy more mainstream than it already is. Along with declines in box office revenue, studios will see decline in DVD purchases due to people, "waiting for the next format." And since neither format is that great.... well. You see my train of though.

And BTW, needless to say, though that was all phrased as fact, this is only my very, very dominican opinion.

I know that many countries in Latin America have incredible piracy problems... There are stores, STORES, where they sell nothing but copied DVDs games and so forth... it isn't the case here. That happens because the governments do nothing to enforce the laws and probably because this just might be better for their economies...

If that's what you are talking about I guess there wouldn't be anything different happening after HD DVDs become mainstream since there will always be a big difference between watching a movie on a 40ft. screen and killer sound systems and watching it at home on whatever nice TV you get... unless you are talking about a 60 inch from about 6 feet away... lol... but those won't be in all Latin American homes till 2030 and by then we'll be hopefully projecting 5k and the difference will still be a big one from 1080 to that humongous amount of pixels...

The HD DVDs we create out of the HVX200 are stunning.

I don't know what "suck" means in the context of HD DVD or blu ray, but our HD DVDs look even better than Comcast HD feeds a/t to two techs.

What burners do you use and how much?

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is HD-DVD, for example, and there's no Blu-ray version. I'm really not impressed with BLU-RAY's movie line up currently. HD-DVD's seem like having a lot better selection of must OWN videos. Blockbusters are usually not what I consider movies to keep- you can count by your hand the blockbusters you would want to see again...

Movies I would certainly like to own in HD:

1- Moulin Rouge
2- Wong Kar Wai films ("In The Mood For Love" my highest priority)
3- City of God
4- Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (HD-DVD already released)
5- Taxi Driver
6- Forrest Gump
7- Gladiator
8- Seven
9- Top Secret and Airplane( I love nonsense humour)
10- The Village

Anyone can give me some info on what format I would get these titles? I sure hope it would be BLU-Ray for my top 5, but I can see that Eternal Sunshine is already out of the question...

Se7en and City of God are on my List. as is BLADERUNNER.

i personally want one of thoes, Dual system HD-DVD/BluRAY players. This way i dont care who wins.

So many!!!

I went to a screening of the Red One's footage here about 3 months ago and one of the things being showcased was the actual projector... a digital 4k... they had some of the most stunning jaw-dropping (70mm?) footage I HAVE EVER SEEN, Red Footage and the sound of music re-scanned at 4k... I love that we'll get to watch the well conserved masterpieces at such higher rez!

Maybe I'll finally watch Bonanza and Casa Blanca... :)

they need to re release all thoes classics in theatres again. Projected at 4k , id pay 9$ to see that film again in its full glory.

We just a stock superdrive in a MacPro and burn to single and dual layer stock red laser dye discs.

I can get more than an hour on the DVDs.

We've even burned h.264 at 10 mbps for the Toshiba plauyer and we can see a difference from normal HD broadcast footage.

I just yesterday read up on how to burn hd-dvd's on a reg 4.7gb dvd in DVDSP. Do you have a HD-DVD player or just watch on a computer?
