Next Contest

Yeah, I do know what you mean about having less replies than contestants and yeah, even though i havnt been able to watch yet I do check my thread.
BTW, get over to it and reply to what I wrote you and then come back here and reply to this :)

I know, i just extracted all the films and about to watch all the flicks. Well maybe not all of them tonight. I dont want to get a hemroid or anything.

HAHA, I will write a booklet and sell it on here. How to watch the fest flicks without busting a butt bubble.

Hey Editphish,
I am responding to your post about the spread of talents. I think this shouldnt really be viewed more as a contest but as what it says, a film fest. Its a chance to put your work out there for fellow film makers and others to see at thier leisure and talk about them. The winnings are just a perk or incentive to get off the ass and make something. I mean, out of all the film fests that go on in the world, how many DVX users would never even think of submitting anything for what ever reasons. I know I wouldnt have. I would probably still be contempleting my first short and yes, my very first short was for a contest here a while ago. Im my mind I wasnt thinking about the prizes, I was thinking about people seeing what I have done. At the end of the day this is art and everyone creates their art the way they can. Just because its not blockbuster or high budget looking doesnt mean its not as meaningful.
The downside of critiqing is that it becomes a vehicle to judge others and make us second guess our own works. If someone doesnt enter the next fest because they are afraid someone like Jdanstan or mcgreggor is going to blow them out of the water then we have falied as the community this forum has grown to and become. Yeah, it would be nice to be the winner of a dolly and a crane but I think we all win because this gave us the incentive to try and we all wind up with something called experience.

I think you raise an excellent point. But it is somewhat difficult to be taken seriously when fellow filmmakers on the forum view a film like SIMILO and then look and something you have and say "are we sup post to take this seriously” just because it is a film festival doesn't mean there can't be different qualifications and experience levels of films, such as a student category and a professional category. Heck I would even care about winning prizing if I could comment on a good level with fellow peers of the same experience level who would take the time to view your film and have question for you. Many festivals are set up like this and have been successful. The DVX festival is wonderful, but as it grows it should take the steps that are needed with growth to ensure the retention of new users. Once again this is all something to think about and that's why forums are great because everyone has a chance to voice their opinions and be heard.
