news about the F3?

OK... the cats out of the bag on S-Log. I knew it was coming but didn't know the price point.

I haven't heard anything about F5 and suspect that Timur's sardonic sense of humor might be at work here.

I'm definitely waiting for the Sony F6 and 8K. All you losers using 4K are so outdated. 8K is just around the corner!

Well I guess my question about speculation on this forum has been answered :}

there was one short blip of a comment about it from a sony rep a few months back on hdwarrior. he was asked what's up for sony this coming NAB, and there working on the next iteration in the F series, possibly dubbed F5. and is def gonna be 4k. makes sense, since sony has officially committed to the 4k game now with the f65, and have put out tons of 4k projects over the years. I very much doubt it will be sub 20k though. just like the f3 was supposed to be a b cam for the f35, it think they are coming out with a 50k or under camera to B cam for the f65.

all conjecture, but i think it all makes sense. they want their SR media and decks to sell,and they want that piece of the 4k market too.

thats a bummer.

Not really, for owners it is a good deal, a lot of folks feel that is the way the F3 should have been sold in the first place. Just wondering if rental houses could still buy the SXS card upgrade?

the deal is still good, and I will take part. but finding the time to send the camera to the shop is going to be difficult. I was hoping I could get that sucker overnighted for some shoots next week!

I hear ya.. I was ready to walk in to Abel today and buy it. I dont know how quick Sony will be able to turn these upgrades around but being without my camera for more then five days is a impossibility right now. Hell, I'll drive to Teaneck if they can do it while I wait.

it would be cool if they would just let us send a 32gb SxS card in and have them dump the firmware on to that. I can live without that card for a bit.

this is pure speculation on my part but it seems that the f3 will come standard in march with the s log upgrade. this is to directly compete with the canon c300. Which is great news for people who want to buy the f3 and I want them to - the more people with the camera, the better. And I think it knocks the c300 out of the water (but then again I haven't used the c300). It might on the surface be not that friendly and amazing news to existing owners - but hey, I have gotten so much value out of the s log already I shouldn't complain - I basically have 2 arri alexa cameras for the price of a meal in nyc!!! What can you do, that's the thing with being a early adopter - it happens - new technology is always around the corner. I've shot so many great things already I'm not that bummed and I've made my money back. With s log for that cheap, the f3 is a sure bet for everyone.

I totally agree, having purchased the S-LOG upgrade only two weeks ago. They must have known this was around the corner. It may be different if the zoom lens was any good, but it's certainly not a lens that anyone is keen on and not a softener to those who have recently paid the full price.

If all of this turns out to be real, it is interesting to see how nervous Sony gets over the C300. very very nervous.While they are at it, give me IMX 50 as well!

I have been trying to order it from Abel cine in Chicago all day and they can't seem to confirm its real. Who do I contact if I am based in Iowa?
