News about GH2 firmware

So, 100mb plus some working room for the 3 processors sounds pretty meager these days.

Very far. Thousands of dollars.

Good news is that it can be also used for Nikon D7000, all panasonic compacts and some other cameras.
So, only big community combined could make it happen. Or good and big sponsor who want to see their name on top tech news articles :-)

Well- There are currently 1711 users online. 311 members and 1400 guests at DVXuser.com
and there are 225 viewers in the Panasonic GH forum alone
(this is at 9:30EST) in the middle of a workday no less....imagine this evening--many more!!


If we could get 200 donations of 10 bucks a piece- (WELL WORTH the research provided by Mr Kiselev!!) That's $2000 USD ! That's a start right?

I don't even have the GH2- very happy w/ my GH-13 (Many thanks again to Vitaliy - and Lpowell and others for testing and creating such great methods for exploratory firmware options!!)

But none the less- would love to see progress on this GH2, (GH-23) ;)

No, it is too soon.

First, we must publish all databases related to GH1 projects. Plus docs.
Second, obtain all necessary information about exact pricing and other things.
Third, make necessary community. As GH community won't be enough, believe me.
And finally we must sort out problems with our account, as I can't get any money from it to pay for necessary scripts for almost three weeks.

Just let us know what we need to do and when it needs to be done by. Whether it is donating money or time or just simply getting the word out. Thank you for your efforts. They are always appreciated.

as far as account- what if we sent $ via 'paypal gift' - it's instantly accesible.....but the problem there is that you would be spending all day retrieving endless $10 transactions...so maybe that wouldn't work...

No, it is not a problem :-)
In fact today we have limited account.
And only Rich can solve this. And he seems to have big trouble with this.
So it looks like we'll soon be needing new Premier or Business account because of this.
 
I don't know how many thousands you need, but I'll donate whatever I can when you have your donation stuff up and running. I think of it as an investment... I'd rather save money and get the 14-42 vs the 14-140, and put that extra money into your hack, honestly.
 
If half of the improvement list (specially red peaking assist, MJPEG 4:2:2, and clean HDMI out with audio) would have been included on the camera from the start it woild have been quite more expensive. I´ll donate how much I can so I don´t need to buy another camera or just to buy another GH2 later!
 
Maybe this is stupid, but what about something like Kickstarter? That way, if we didn't make the goal, we all wouldn't be out of our donations, since Kickstarter won't charge the money-givers until the Kickstarter Funding goal is met...

Idk, it's just a thought.
 
I've donated and will continue to donate to get this thing hacked. I think others might be reluctant to donate without knowing for sure that Vitaliy is confident that the encryption is breakable and that he is fairly confident the GH2 will be hacked.
 
I think us "GHers" as a community want a GH2 hack much more than users of the other cams and would stretch our pockets for a hack but from what I understand, we are not enough for the large sum of money that is needed, unless 250 of us pay like 100 $ each ( which I would be very willing to donate). So we need to find out what interest there is from D7000 users and compact camera users. (I suspect compact users won't really care-I doubt there is significant presence on forums from them). so I guess d7000 users are our best shot if we want to split costs so to speak. What would be slightly uncool is if GHers collected the sum and D7000 users got a free hack;) anyways . let's wait for an update with numbers on money needed. Who knows, it might even be worth pesting companies to sponsor. I mean, all these smaller up and coming "dslr" support companies like jag35, shoot35, and all the 35... imagine how it would reflect on them if they could advertise that they are sponsoring the hack. I can't think of any better advertising investment for a company like that.
