GH4 Newer .64x Speed Booster...

I wondered about that. But, the FFD for PL is longer than Nikon. So, it seems like it should be possible. What am I missing?

Great, something else to buy with extra import fees to Fedex.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Stuff is coming out so fast every week I haven't had a moment to make a decision and but anything. First the new GH4 came out, what a game changer. (Even though I never liked the mini sensor) I got one from a Panasonic rep in Nov 2014 to test personally and the EF metabones speed booster, wow what a picture. Ready to buy, (but temporarily out of stock.) Then suddenly the NX1 hits the scene, and that looks so much better. (but I can't edit it till next year) Wait a minute NAB comes with the Ursa Mini and only $2,995 with last years 4k raw sensor and 15 stops of DR on this years . Sounds sweet, gotta have it. (but neither yet available) (extra $2,000 for cards, ouch) Wait a minute, Sony unleashes the 4k a-7-r-II. Holly fknsht!!!!! ( Not available till Aug or Dec 2015.)
What a wonderful time to hang on to your money and wait for something truly revolutionary to be announced!
Maybe Canon is actually doing something different after all. Nothing new and no expectations. Just shot another job with the obsolete pair, 60D and 600D, got $1,500 with the same old, same old and nobody really cared.

Yes I'm trying to save every penny I can right now, for my next camera purchase. A used Sony F65 package. Even used these suckers are expensive. I've actually even been thinking of a kickstart campaign to raise funds. Smaller contributors will get 4K raw stock footage. Top contributor will get a crew to come and help shoot and advise their local feature film. I would get a few well known folks from here on DVXuser to come and advise. In return for their help I would give them a couple weeks with the F65 package.

What are the advantages of this new speed booster over the previous one? It's 1.3 stop brighter. What else?

Why not wait for the .50x Speed Booster they will announce after every mug buys this version? Utter con. Metabones are a disgrace when it come to after sales as well.

A 0.50x won't work on m4/3 sensors. Some lenses won't cover the full m4/3 sensor and this new speedbooster. It's pretty specifically designed to take advantage of the GH4's crop 4K modes. And I never had a problem with my Speedbooster, so I cannot comment on after sales. What was your experience?

I have medium format lenses, would be nice to see a .50x that will cover the GH2 sensor. But I'm afraid the number of sales would make this exceedingly expensive, they probably wouldn't sell more than a couple hundred (if that). It would be neat to know the development costs for each lens system, I bet it is way above $3000 each (not including lens grinding machines, just the glass and mounts), and then I wonder how many end up in the scrap bin because they just aren't right and need a tweak here and there.

Of the these new Speed Boosters, XL .64X and Ultra .71X...

.64X: increases speed by 1.3 stops; reduces crop to 1.28x (APS-H); in C4K reduces crop to 1.5x (S35)
.71X: increases speed by 1 stop; reduces crop to 1.07(?)

Same image quality by both.

So which one to get and why?

You sort of answered your own questions. You get one based on what type of crop factor you feel you need. If you really must for whatever reason have the same FOV as a S35 camera then you know what choice to make.

If you really must shoot without lights and try to cram every ounce of a photon onto the sensor than you know what choice to make.

If none of this really matters to you then it really doesn't matter which one you use. It also kind of depends on what format you tend to shoot. If you only ever shoot 4k then it kind of makes sense to get the newer one since it is optimized to work with the GH4 when shooting 4k. The older version still works but the newer one factors in a lot more of the specifics of the GH4 and 4k.

Yep. Agree. Faster speed (XL) or greater FOV (Ultra). More light is more useful for me than full frame.

So I'm getting close to pulling the trigger on a Speed Booster for my GH4 so I can start using some of my Canon primes again, but I'm also very interested in getting the Sigma 18-35mm f1.8, hopefully for use in both video AND photo.

So that brings me to my question: Speed Booster "S" or Speed Booster XL?

I'm fairly certain in 4k mode the Sigma lens would be fine on either Speed Booster. On the "S" version I believe it would be fine on photo mode/1080p video as well. But photo/1080p on the XL version with the Sigma 18-35mm lens, is that a no-go? Anyone tried it yet or seen any examples to see if there's bad vignetting?

I see that review in the post above me mentions using the Sigma lens, but they only really cover 4k video.
