"Metabones are bringing S35-equivalent focal lengths to the Panasonic GH4 with their new Speed Booster XL 0.64x Micro-4/3 mount adapter. A stock GH4 has a full frame crop factor of 2x in HD mode and the new adapter changes this to 1.28x, which is closer to an APS-H crop. And when you combine the adapter with the GH4’s Cinema 4K video mode (which has about a 2.3x crop) it reduces to a 1.5x for a crop that is practically Super35 – the cinema standard."

That is great news. Hopefully it will get a good price.

Price is consistent with previous speed boosters: "The Speed Booster XL 0.64x will be available in Nikon F/G ($479 US) and Canon EF ($649 US) versions. We have a review sample and will be sharing some thoughts and test footage shortly."

Why is the Nikon version so much cheaper?

The article says it will make the cheapest s35 4k device out there, but the total for canon EF mount is going to be around $1800 to $1900 for the body and reducer alone. Is it really that much cheaper than a7s or nx-1?

Still good news, was surprised there wasn't a greater factor adaptor for these sensors yet.

Wonder if it works on gh2, it's not listed.

As noted by Greg, the Nikon version has less going on internally than the Canon.

On the cheapest 4K solution - well, the a7s doesn't record 4K internally so you'd have to add the cost of another piece of kit. They probably didn't think about the NX1, but a lot of people dont. ;)

Assuming this fits the gh2, I may want to go with this over a Lens Turbo II for the extra wide. And I might go for the Nikon version since I plan to mostly use my medium format lenses. Tough call because that would rule out a lot of other choices and might explain the price difference. I expect the Nikon version to be less popular because you can't adapt it to all the others like you can for EF.

I wonder if FD/FL lenses with an edmika mount would clear the optics in the reducer, this might be one place where the .64 doesn't work.

Doesn't look like it fits the GH2 according to their website.

I would love to design Speed Boosters for the Samsung NX series - and have tried on several occasions, but those cameras have a deep "canyon" of metal/plastic in front of the sensor. It just doesn't seem possible to do a proper design, unfortunately.

i do like to shoot 1080p VFR mode on occasion so having a lens that only works with 4K or Ex tele mode would be kind of a bummer. but having a F1.1 zoom would be pretty epic.

I assume this new Speed Booster will work on the GH3 also?

For an even wider FOV + faster lens?

I just read through the PDF, the canon version is more money because of the electronics to power the lens and control the iris.

GH2 suggests that this SBXL interferes with the cover over the mechanical shutter, and possible doesn't cover the image circle in video mode (if what I've read about gh2 video mode sensor size is true at 19mm wide).
