Hello, I have some questions on the new hack for newer GH1's.
1. Can you revert back after you hack the camera?
2. The hack removes the need to do pulldown?
3. hack removes mud in 1080?
4. can this hack damage your camera in any way?
4. will my camera still work as it does when shooting photos instead of video?

1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Yes
4. No
5. Yes

I'd recommend you try hacking with one of lpowell's patches, which are linked in my signature.

GH1 V1.34 firmware not available, so putting that back is not possible

As far as I know, this should be:

1. No.

The V1.34 firmware for new GH1's has not been publicly released.

I asked Vitaliy if this can be patched by simply applying the changes from V1.32 in another PTool option, so as to be able to create V1.34 firmware from V1.32.

I haven't hacked my V1.34 GH1 yet, just because of that. Though I like it to be hackable now, I do not want to lose any possible advantage of the V1.34 firmware.

I you do not want that either, do not hack for now.

I stand corrected, the GH13 hack can be reversed, and the GH17 can be hacked to 1.32 firmware, but I suppose reverting to 1.34 is not currently possible. However, the 1.32 firmware was fine so you should be ok reverting to it if you'd like. In all likelihood, you won't need to reverse the hack, since the hack does so many good things to the camera.

THanks for the info. My camera currently shows version 1.3 is this correct? it's not 1.32

Also, there are several patches, which one do you recommend? I'm thinking between these two:
lpowell - Reliable In-Camera Playback Patch
Blackout-Powell Native 24p Patch

Do both remove the need for pulldown?

the fact that we have a "reliability" patch, doesn't that mean the other patches are not reliable?

Is the reliability patch reliable a high percentage of the time? I'm using the camera on a 3-week overseas trip.. I do not want it to crash on me with a no way of restoring functionality, in case if it crashed...

When the camera crashes, it does not lose functionality, the worst that happens is it freezing and you have to remove the battery. Once you put it back in the camera is fine with no damage and no change to the hack.

Only the Blackout-Powell Native 24p patch and lpowell's Max Latitude patch use the Native 24p checkbox, with removes pulldown from the recording. I use Blackout-Powell and Max Latitude.

EDIT: I absolutely hate pulldown removal, so I avoid it like the plague!

I thought native 24P was unreliable? Has that changed?

I'm not looking for super high ibitrate 40-ish is fine for me.. 24p native would be very nice to have even though I do have NeoScene..

The version shown on the menu will only show Version 1.3, but not the second digit after the decimal point. It could be either 1.32 or 1.34

You need to enter the GH1 "Service Mode" which will tell you what the actual version is.

Lpowell designed both the Blackout-Powell 24p Native Patch and the Max Latitude patch for stable 24p. So 24p is now reliable. Not 100%, but close enough for almost any practical use.

Thanks. It worked! will any of these patches work good in 720p in either AVCHD or MJPEG? Also, when I click playback button, it asks to update firmware, I click no then I can view the video I recorded in the camera - is this how it will work from now on?

sebek.. after updating, delete the .bin file from the SD card

Seconded. Actually formating the card in camera would be good (first make sure you don't have any files on the card you don't want to delete).

If you want 720p at 60fps use Blackout-Powell, if you want 720p30 use Max Latitude.

Is the 720p 60fps Blackout patch better than unhacked 720?
Is it me or does is require a much more steady hand, tripod when shooting at 1080? it seems I got steadier footage shooting 720.
I also notice that my serial #WE0LA which means 2010 so this is really not a GH17 hack or is it?
Which patch is the Tester13? So far we have the following:
Powell Native 24p Patch
LPowell 100Mbps Max Native 24p standard Patch v2
LPowel PEak PErformance Patch v4
LPowell Reliable In-Camera Playback Patch v2

Was wondering why you are suggesting this.
Why not just keep it on the card and label it for future use?

Because every time you go to replay footage in-camera it will ask if you want to update firmware, which is annoying.

1. The blackout patch is far superior. Pretty much any hacked patch is better than unhacked, that's why we hack them. It is much much much better.
2. The framerate difference from 24 to 60 can appear shakier in 24 but both require adequate stabilization.
3. It's a GH17 if the body was previously unhackable, and has been hacked by the new ptool "New Body" option.
4. Tester13 is Vitaliy's username, he was the one to develop the first hack and he wrote the Ptool. All the patches you listed are bitrate and other hack settings presets developed by lpowell for use in ptool. So they're all the tester13 hack.

I meant using a card and saving that firmware hack for the future, then using a separate SDHC card for shooting video to.

Were you saying that prompt to update during playback happens (only) when using the same card for both the hack and as a storage medium?

I misunderstood you, you're correct, most people have a hack on a card for future use, but don't shoot to that card. That's what I do. The prompt happens whenever there's a firmware file on the card that's in the camera.
