New slider from Edelkrone

Just incase you need to make any adjustments
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgOmam6-D2c&feature=youtu.be (for the brake) I took mine out.

How's the move in the middle? I'm not sure if it's user error, but all of the sample videos I've seen show a very stuttery or sped up motion about halfway through the move. Is this due to the design of the slider itself or is it inexperienced ops?

Would love to hear feedback from those that picked this up. Pictures with your rig? Any sample video? Impressions?

Considering getting one myself in the near future.

Digging mine! My only complaint is that when locked, I thought it would be very tightly locked. The belt used gives some slop side to side (about 2-3mm). I was really hoping that wasn't the case for tracking shots with no slider needed, still more stable pulling the slider off then hard mounting the head. Ill make a quick video review.

Cheers.

Real quick video of the quirks.

shot a pilot with it the other day and it performed well. I did notice when shooting with my 200mm that i did experience a little movement up and down. But this was a non stabilized 200 and probably would not be the case with the ios on, Plus 200mm on an AF is reaching and that would be hard for any light weight slider. I verified on a hard surface the amount of lean side to side is reduced. With the circle being basically cut in half on the leveling bubble. Thinking about this now it might be that feet on the tripod. They are very soft and round, In costa rica ill spike them and we will see if it is an issue. I am thinking most of the components are Stainless and aluminum, we will see which ones are not, I will be shooting on a river in a rainforest for a week. I cant express enough how much I love the lock, compared to my kessler that doesnt have a lock without the beltdrive installed, it comes to be a very welcomed feature.

Hey guys. Is it possible (/advisable) to mount the slider onto a head, rather than directly onto the sticks? I.e. put a tripod plate on the bottom of the slider and put it on a head. Thanks.

You probably could, but then you have another weak spot in the slight play between plate and head... and.... head and sticks.

True. I went ahead and got the Varavon Slide Cam Lite 600 since it was shown mounting onto a head in photos and videos, and has a dedicated thread for it (and also a 3/8" for mounting to sticks). Also, it was in stock in the US and could get to me before next week, when I needed it, and a little less expensive. I still really love the way that the Edelkrone works. I'm going to keep my eye on this company's products. Thanks, le grave.

I got the Edelkrone XL last week and it really is great. Granted the tripod needs to have a pretty wide base to properly support the additional length. There is some level change from one side of the slider to the other but I attribute it to the Manfrotto 055XPROB its on. Its damn solid and I suspect it would have very little level change with sturdier legs. photo.jpg

Would anyone care to explain how to attach my 75mm tripod head on to the slider plate? As far as I can tell by looking at all the pictures there's just a flat surface to attach your camera to, or is this something you can choose when placing your order?

You need a high hat.

Thanks for the answer Frank. I've been looking around for high hats but they all seem to come with three short legs underneath, the tripod heads attached to the SliderPLUS looks like a block with an bowl at the top?

I have a Libec LS38 tripod, and the head has a long screw coming out of it, now this screw is way to long and it would be in the way of the tripod head even getting close to the slider plate and high hat adapter. Does this mean that my current tripodhead is useless with the Edelkrone slider?

Eldelkrone rocks! I went to their booth at NAB and not only they have a new and fresh approach on accessories with innovative designs, but they are also a team of great people. Very nice company.

i liked the idea of the sliderplus but i wasn't sure i should get one. After playing with one at NAB, i had to put an order. It is brilliant and really well designed with the right questions in mind.

Seems as though here are a bunch of tripods that are not optimal, for the sliders. Does anyone have confidence on the lightest tripods that supports each slider, without any tripod induced issues?

Thank you very much

Fury

i feel so torn because as much as i admire this company's approach to things, i have to agree with srgtfury. it's more compact in some ways but would require more gear like sand bags and a heavier duty tripod to operate safely. so, in weight sensitive situations that might actually make this guy less portable. not to mention other slider designs can be removed from the tripod to get different angles, but with this guy it looks like you are locked down to that set of heavy duty sticks. that "push in" shot does seem to be pretty handy though. as does the motorized panning. i'm interested to see pricing on these tools

Okay so I recieved my slider plus yesterday, this far I'm not so impressed actually. Sure it looks like a weapon and feels like a tank, really solid. But am I the only one that can't get a smooth slide all the way with this damn thing?! I mean as soon as it gets to the middle where both the blocks meet up you either get an increase or decrease in speed. Am I missing something basic here or is this a major flaw with the design? I did some research and almost every video I've seen has a quite uneven sliding speed, specially when moving over the middle...

Also, do you guys get a clicking sound when you start and stop the slide? It comes from the locking mechanism on the side, the little switch is loose and moves a bit creating a clicking sound each time the belt starts to turn...

This must be one of the worst investments I've ever done in my entire life! The damn thing isn't even straight when placed on a table, you always need to screw out one of the feet under it to get it straight, no matter where you place it. That makes the whole thing uneven and not in level.

The footage that comes out of it is really bad, the whole image wobbles, even with at 17mm, that's so wide that you can get away with some shake and wobble but this slider manages to ruin those shots to! And this is not only when on a tripod, the wobble gets even worse when placed on a table, so it isn't due to my tripod (I have a really sturdy and heavy Libec head and legs).
The trolly is a bit loose and isn't sitting tight against the rails at all, and there's no way to adjust the bearings underneath it either.
The Edelkrone support is really slow and quite ignorant, you try to tell them what issues you have but they do everything they can to hang up as soon as possible saying "aha... mmhmm... okay sir... yes... yes... ok sir, we will contact you again... aha...." I told them several times while on phone with them that I have a job coming up in five days and need a slider since that's what I promised my client, and I begged them to send a new one to me ASAP but all you get is "Yes sir... aha... yes we will look at it and respond with a video with a solution". I try to explain to them over and over again that the whole slider is crooked but no, a video will solve my issues.

This slider has some MAJOR design issues and I can't recommend it to anyone, for this money you really can get much better sliders out there. While I'm on my epic rant, why not mention the little brake in the middle that you set under the slider; If you pull the brake up so that the slider doesn't move, good luck with unlocking it, the brake goes all the way in between the bearings and the top trolly, that makes it impossible for your finger to reach. You end up using a stick, knife, or a screwdriver to get it out. How the hell could they ship it this way?

Don't get me wrong, I love the concept and the idea but they have released an unfinished product that does not deliver what they promise. Those smooth slides are really not that smooth at all, they are shaky and uneven. And all that talk about "precise manufacturing" isn't really that precise at all. Look at almost any footage on Youtube or Vimeo, you will see what I'm talking about, it's shaky and uneven.

So after trying to explain in an email all my issues they demanded a video showing all the issues, and here it is:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=h_NlxzdpY6k

Today they E mailed me back first saying that these issues can be solved by adjusting the slider. I have adjusted all possible parts and nothing works. Any by the way you shouldn't have to make major adjustments on a 499 + VAT slider IMO...
So after trying to explain dozens of times that no video they send me with instructions can help me adjust this thing they decided to send me a new one. Perfect, that's fine with me. But, they won't pay any shipping for the old one because it has to go to Chech republic. So I have to pay import taxes one more time for the new one, plus all the shipping and handling for the old one. Just because they failed to check that the slider was in working condition before they send it out.

I just hope that the new one works. But this really took all the fun out of it, now it has become a VERY expensive slider. To be fair they are offering me all the money back, but I would end up with paying the shipping and the export taxes, so then I would have lost about total of 300 dollars and have no slider and a ruined shot (and probably lost my customer).

So, pick your poison I guess...

I am sure that there are hundreds of happy Edelkrone customers on DVXUser, but I think that they have a long way to go when it comes to customer service. I'll never buy anything from them again after this and I really hope that the new slider works at least a bit better than this one.

Just wondering if anyone has had a bad experience with ordering from this company?

I ordered the new V2 slider a month ago and have yet to hear anything from them confirming shipment! No one replies to my emails and my order status states simply that they took my money and that's it. Is this typical for them? Every other company (including shady Chinese fly by night outfits) at least confirm my item has shipped and usually ship within a week of placing the order. I hate just giving away $600+ to someone without even a simple confirmation or any sign of them actually getting off their butts and shipping the item!

I've not had a bad experience myself, so I'm sure the slider will turn up, but I'd agree it's not good if they're not answering e-mails. I'd go to plan B in your shoes, ask them what's going on with your order via Twitter, as Twitter is public companies are always more likely to respond to customers.
