New Shotgun Mic for GH1/GH2 - the one that Philip Bloom touted?

i dunno.
sorry to everyone for hijacking this thread!

i think that any decent quality recorder is going to sound better than a consumer camera's built-in mic simply because most video cam manufacturers seem to treat audio as an afterthought or a novelty even! that and the fact that you've got a tiny consumer camera with very little room to embed some good audio circuits and mics. that's why we're all looking at these 'micro' shotguns i guess.

plugging an external mic into the camera is not going to affect AGC, but having a stronger signal coming in will appear to improve things as you'll have more of your subject and less of everything else.

Don't forget an on camera mounted mic
Will record all camera handling noises..
?? I have never had that problem with the Sennheiser MKE400. Any decent on-camera shoe-mounted mic should have some sort of shock mount built in, which the new Rode Videomic Pro and Senn mke400 do.

What do you use that you've had this issue with?

Don't put all your eggs in one basket. My Rode Video Mic Pro failed in the first week, with about 10 minutes of use. = Garbage. I guess Australia is competing with China.

On-camera audio is sh*t/sync anyways. I bought the Rode thinking it would be fun for backup on mini-tripod for audio on a shoot (better than my CHEAP Azden 3.5mm mic). Its' circuitry has failed within a couple of days. It's a piece of junk marketed towards the huge new wave of wannabe DSLR hobbyists, and people who don't actually do video for a living, as far as I can tell.

Re-learned noobie lesson: Buy a GOOD mic...put it where it needs to be.
