My brother has been into parkour and free running for a while. He gets shoe companies to send him new shoes to test out from time to time. Here's a video we shot last week with some new shoes from Sudu. We shot it over the course of a day. Check it out and give me some feedback.

cool beans - I really like the camera move at ~1:30 when it spins around the bar. good work :)

Cheers,
Adam

Nice.
You kept the video short enough to maintain intrest without getting repetitive & some great shots in there. It was intersting seeing the ungraded footage at the end.. did you use MB Looks for coloring?

Thanks guys. Yeah MB Looks for grading. I used a different grade and tilt-shift effect on the opening shot, then the last was ungraded.

I had to do that shot around the rail 3 or 4 times. I kept pointing the camera way off when I got halfway around.

We had way more shots than we used, but when I started cutting I had to throw a ton out for pacing. Sometimes too many angles makes the action look slower or just confusing. We also had like 10 crazy handstand shots, but cut most because they completely stopped the momentum of the video.

Good job cutting together the multiple takes to make it look like multiple angles of the same actions.
Didn't care too much for the rewinding and redoing of the same move after the camera was knocked. I'm all for the unexpected, but this killed the momentum and took me out of the moment. I would have put the blooper at the end with the other one.

Very nice shots though, I liked it.

That's actually kind of what we were going for. Everything is smooth and then WHAM! Don't usually see the mistakes in these videos, not until the end. Definitely takes you out of the flow of the video, but adds a little realism. The rewind may have been a little gimmicky, but the snapshot was actually an accidental in-camera effect. He knocked the camera loose from my hands and when I grabbed tight to get ahold of it I hit the shutter. It snapped a photo, left the sound and all in the video--I didn't know it would do that. The whole sequence might have worked better in a longer video though.

I wish I had an arm for my steadicam. It's hard to run and keep that thing stable. The shock arm would at least knock out some of the jitters from my footsteps.

Like I said, I'm all for abrupt and unexpected. It wasn't the actual hit to the camera that bothered me but rather the rewind part (which you rightly refer to as "gimmicky"). It just took too long and killed the momentum. If you leave the knock in there for the unexpected jolt to the viewer, but then pick it right back up with more of the hoppy monkey business, then the momentum wouldn't suffer.

The way it is, I found myself wondering, "what's the point of this?" during the rewind part the first time I watched the vid and then skipping it entirely to get back to the good stuff the 2nd time through.

Gotcha. Definitely appreciate the input. I had another shooter with me for about half the day. He doesn't really edit, but I thought he did a decent job throwing things together. Here's his take on the whole shebang:

Hey, we just won video of the month on the American Parkour site! Check out the video if you haven't already. (It's in the first post, different vid in the 10th)
