New RF Mount Cinema Camera coming June 5

Maybe it's a C400 because it's full-frame RF, but not priced as high as a C500?
Well, the C500 was really priced too high for it to catch on so it would make sense that Canon would bring in something cheaper and use the lower number. Canon really can't release something at $16,000 again unless it literally has the same dynamic range as an Alexa 35.

I think even then, it would still be a hard sell indeed.

The market for cameras priced substantially above $10K which are not called "ARRI", is a very small market indeed.
(and probably far too crowded already for the size of it, with the Sony BURANO & RED V-RAPTOR already in that space. And extremely good competition at the $10K price point itself, such as Sony FX9 & RED Komodo-X. I think it is crazy bold of BMD to price the Blackmagic Design URSA Cine 12K LF at above US$10K, but I suspect we'll within a year or so see a discount to that price to bring it in line with the other $10K camera competition)

I've been saying for 3 camera generations they are done with cameras over $10K so I'm not saying anything this time - but, yeah, it feels like they are definitely done doing that.

What's the prediction - disappointment or interest? Personal level and mainstream..

Not to hijack but how are you getting around the C70's lack of an EVF? In particular if you shoot outdoors at all. We're considering picking up a couple at work (and the station already has one that's used by one shooter) but my unit is a bit worried about the monitoring situation. Zacuto makes a loupe (overpriced and likely overbuilt) but there's not much else (unless you go with an expensive Gratical eye or similar).
I use the Zacuto loop all the time for outdoor shoots and handheld (provides a great third point of contact). It's robust and a really good solution imo.

It's weird to me that Canon has gotten a bad reputation.... Whenever I am on shoots with other brands, I'm surprised by all of the missing features that I've come to rely upon in Canon cameras. Like the ability to have manual focus assist.
Completely agree. My current cameras are the C70 and C300mkIII. They just work. Nice colours, simple to operate, logical menus, reliable.

The last time I switched brands was the FS7 (coming from the C300). For me it was a pig to operate, a constant battle. Weird colours, awful menus, unintuitive. Sold it for the much underrated C300mkII and it felt like a homecoming. I've fooled around with other brands but Canon's are just very reliable and easy to get a good image from.

Forget $16k, just leapfrog everything and go to $27,000 or something to that effect. Then they can say “See, it’s even better than the Burano!” 😉

I like the prediction. You just need to pick up a c700 to cross off the list!
ha, that thing...I remember reading some of the limitations of it (and also the LT around that time) and was just shocked...like for that much money.

Who says the FX6mk2 is coming in September?
I put the emoji there as a guess/joke, but those two go back-and-forth and I think it won't be long until Sony announces something after Canon since this sounds like a serious camera (vs. a mirrorless). Not long like a few months, not days.

I have 2 C70's (1. tripod cam and 2. hand-held cam on strap). Both have EVF addons.

Tripod cam has the Zacuto C70 z-finder clipped to the LCD. I got the parts cheap. Works great. Flips up and down, protects the weak LCD, I can see the false color in my eye when needed, etc...

Hand-held cam has the Portkeys LEYE EVF attached as close to the top as possible on the smallrig C70 cage. Works great for hand-held shooting with the camera jammed up to my eye, Kubrick-style. Not as low-profile as the C200 style built-in EVF, but much better quality image with more features. Quite inexpensive too (by EVF standards).
This is very helpful—thank you! The Portkeys in particular seems like an interesting option, especially for the price.

So it's basically C500 mk2 with an RF mount? The triple-base ISO is kind of interesting. Price is not horrible. Can we not use the Canon EVF-V50? Is Canon just totally abandoning EVF's?

Initial reaction.

WIth the 24-105 2.8 and newer AF this is the best camera to shoot on.
(burono is heavier and 28-135 slower not as wide)

Im interested in the evf cable/plug.

Might bring some love back to the other canons as b/c cam.

Yep, I'd agree. They modernized a few things, but it's basically a smaller C500 II with new mount. Agreed, the pricing is probably on par with where this needs to be to sell.

Unfortunately it does look like there's no connector for the EVF-V50. But on the flip side, I wonder if you could use Blackmagic's new EVF since both it and the Canon use USB-C now for connecting the monitor/viewfinder.
