New RF Mount Cinema Camera coming June 5

If you can use the Blackmagic EVF, does anyone know if it is possible to use a USB splitter (or if the Blackmagic EVF has a USB output) to be able to use both the Blackmagic EVF and Canon LCD at the same time?

Looking like the EVF lead (I own the expensive long one for my C200/movi) is now a flattened fs7 shape plug.

So that £200 lead is in for a repleacement.

For what you get with this camera I’d say it’s appropriately priced, but aside from the 6K and some more I/O and an affection for Canon’s CS why would someone buy this over an fx6?

As I mentioned.. the canon zoom options are better. (to me 28mm on the primary RnG option is a major fail for sony)

(actually the 20-70 sony is underated for handy in my opinon - that would be a great indoor doc lens)

The Codecs deeper

The XLRs onboard

The EF legacy (200-400 et al) is there for you.

Really all these bodies are just a place to hang the lens investment as long as the AF is up to date.

Noting that the FX6 is 890 grams (2 lb) while the C400 is 1.5 kg (3.4 lb).

No EVF is also a bit of a concern. 🙁

Excited to see a new triple-ISO sensor and autofocus system, though.

I was right on the price but also can't say I think it's worth it.

Gotta be 8K/60p for more than a few thousand. It's 2024 :devilish:

Does anyone know what the dual recording capabilities are? From the articles I've read it is vague on what can be recorded to the SD card slot; I read no RAW, what about 4-6K XF-AVC 10 bit 4:2:2 to the SD card slot at the same time as the CFast Express card slot?

I think it only does 6K resolution while shooting raw. The compressed codecs are oversampled 4k. Everything but raw should record onto the SD cards.

I wonder if there is anything preventing you from using the speedbooster with the super35 or super16 modes? Then you'd get the extra stop of light, plus the higher native ISO's.

Lunking my C200 out the other day.

Man it is a beast (as is my naked fs7 that also had an outing recently.. even shooting some uprights!)

In the last year Ive shot so much with the r6 I really feel that all these 'cine' cameras are such a lump as to still need to be used on the shoulder.

All th YT vids we see so far have folk wanging this C400 out where one can comfortably hold a phone.

So to feel at one with this camera, cat on the shoulder at one .. well how does that happen. An evf I guess?

I think it is good, I think with a 28-70 it will be pretty. But living with it.. im not feeling it yet.

here we see a CVP tester smelling the camera.. or is he trying to hold a shot?

but your noise is enlarged. I think you're effectively in the same place as if you use a FF lens and no crop

Pretty much. Plus speedboosters are often known to reduce sharpness and can have other negative image effects.

Now, I wonder if it's possible to have a medium format speedbooster that uses the entire full frame sensor to get an extra stop from full frame along with the medium format look and lenses.

It'd also be cool if the Canon C500 Mark III is medium format like the direction Blackmagic is going. Then you could put a speedbooster on the medium format cameras to get, what, large format?

I’m almost more excited about the Panasonic GH7 announcement. 😅

(I have never owned a Panasonic camera but had to use a HVX camera nearly 20 years ago. You had to love those P2 cards.)

Well all eyes (at least MY eyes) are on the upcoming R5 mkII. If it has IBIS plus internal ND and Clog2 (a very big IF), I will be much more excited for that camera than the C400.

Seems like Canon has really allowed Sony to take over the freelance market by not providing a nice complimentary pair of smallish cinema camera and even smaller mirrorless companion. They got close with the R5C, but the lack of IBIS and Clog2 are just baffling, especially the lack of Clog2.
