New PIX-E recorders/monitors from Sound Devices

Interesting, 4k HDMI only on all of them, eh? Seems a little limiting, though I guess SDI doesn't have a reasonable single-cable 4k standard yet. The design, form-factor, and monitoring features look awesome, if only they could find a way to get the 7Q+ features into something with a great form-factor and design like that. Seems like more of a more production-ready Shogun competitor than anything given the feature-set.

Interesting how they show the E5H on an A7S, which make sense with 4k HDMI, but the E5 and E7 on a Canon C300, which seems like an odd choice given it doesn't have any use for a 4k recorder or 4k hdmi... maybe they know something we don't about the C300II?

Great devices
Interesting one key.. they say HDMI only for 4K

UHD (3840x2160) - HDMI only
4K (4096x2160) - HDMI only

and they announce Prores 4444 XQ 12-Bits, thats very very great,
Only downside is that to my knownledgement 12-Bits is not supported on HDMI, anyone can confirm on this ?

For the rest, having a 500 Nits (like the Cinemartin NEXT) display but in a smaller size (5" seems very good for me) makes a more portable device, its a great pro for up to 4K record.
Well, I prefeer the all-in-one Cinemartin device (a litle more sized, but not too much) but thats my case, cause Im able to record, edit, stream , etc .. from one single device, but again, for record only, VideoDevices PIX-E5 and PIX-E7 are (from SoundDEvices) are great devices, as well as Shorgun and Odyssey

These look great! Wonder how much they'll cost. I'm thinking the PIX-E7H is enough for most people, myself included (4:2:2 ProRes HQ 10-bit).

Though, really, what I want is a Hyperdeck or Ninja Star that records 4K ProRes (no built-in monitor). Keep it under $500 and it's a guaranteed hit.

Interesting. I like that there starts to appear more and more options in the recorder/monitor market!
but wonder if it will take FS700 raw?

Is there any standard way of getting 4K raw over HDMI? I know that Apertus is experimenting with a method for their Axiom camera, but haven't heard of anyone else doing it.

The FS700 doesn't send it via HDMI anyway. And since it's not a video but data format, I guess there's no technical reason (in regards of getting the signal to the PIX-E that would stop them. I would guess, it would rather be an issue of processor power and if they think it's worth the development cost to support it.

The PIX240 which preceded these new monitors ran about $3k. I'd expect something similar for this once you add the Audio attachment - so probably a bit less for the recorder by itself.

I know; I have one - an SD302, not a tank...
Just pointing out how much of a dream it is to expect a PIX-E5H to come in under $1K.

And Soviet tanks weren't built well either (just ask the Iraqi Army).

In any case, HDMI is a standard and these 444 capabilities make me wonder if there will be different Bayer masks on this new generation of pro cameras a la F65.

But it only goes up to 30fps yes? That's pretty poor compared to the Odyssey - that does 60fps and even 120fps burst from FS700 at 4k. I never quite understand how companies release products with less features for the same (or more) money than those already available and expect them to sell. What am I missing?
