Imagine Products has listened to the many Mac users crying out for an affordable P2 viewing and logging tool and today has introduced P2 Log, a new low cost sibling to their popular full-featured HD Log logging software that includes support for P2 media.

P2 Log is specifically designed to be used with the P2 video format and offers essential functionality needed for working with P2 media, including: play clips, delete clips, save P2 files, mark/select clips, export FCP XML, edit text and clip names, edit SD cards, find/replace, and sort. The software is being introduced at a very attractive price of just $99 and is available as a download. A demo is also available.

Glad to see this is now released. I knew it was coming but am very good at keeping NDA's... At any rate, this product will take care of the issue of the lack of P2 viewer software for Mac. I have been working with the P2 viewer software for PC and this seems to do a lot more, particularly with its XML output. I think now everyone should know that Imagine Products was not insensitive to the question of cost of HD Log that so many had been raising on the boards. It just took some work for them to release this specific component.

I just contacted them... it IS a Universal application. They just updated the site to reflect this, as well.

Here is the link -- scroll down and look at Specs (refresh your browser in case you have a cache of the old page):

Just downloaded the demo and it is not an universal build:

Just reads Power Pc and the menus are quite slow on my MacBook Pro

And the application links to the rosetta translator:

I think Dan Montgomery and the fine folks at Imagine Products deserve a standing ovation for their fine work and responsiveness to the user community.

This is fantastic and they really do deserve a big hand, especially from the PAL community as they worked hard to bring us the 720p 25/50 support.

Agree with Anders, just downloaded the demo and this is still PPC only - maybe the retail version is UB.

It looks like you can't customize the logging layout like you can in HD Log, so this must be one of the features which had to be stripped out to make it affordable.

Very cool though.

Yep, thumbs up!

I wish they had gone for a 5 day trial of the full application instead.
It's hard to test the workflow when you can only see the first clip...

Hi Gary.
Any chance of a Universal build of the Demo?

DVCPRO HD passthrough is a great feature.

Is there any upgrade path to HD log if I find P2log too limited?

This is what I just received from them:

"ACTUALLY...the programmer just informed me that the DEMO was accidentally PowerMac whereas the REAL product if full UB.

"So, we'll just need to replace the demo. (might happen yet this evening... programmers are nocturnal you know)."

Very Nice playback performance in the UB build!

720 50p playing back at fullscreen with no dropped frames, Very fluid. Panasonic P2 viever doesn't come near this.

I have the product and must have missed something as I cannot get a full screen display.

Will look at it again...

Ned
