Unless I'm mistaken the link you provided takes us to a site with no mention of a baseplate for the HVX. Would you mind double checking your link and reposting.
Thanks.

Sorry, I was too excited about my new camera to read down that far, plus I'm trying to ingest and digest all the amazing tips I've received so far.

Where's the freakin on button?

haha......fixed

I had something else in my clipboard I was sending in an email. Whoops.

Sorry about that.

got it ...thanks...don't know what's going on, but the link I posted for the 200a brought up the same correct page you just provided...but it doesn't anymore. your link still works :)

Jasmine: while you're here, riddle me this.

Does that baseplate mount OVER the existing baseplate or actually replace the stock one?

Thanks!

Also, how common are base plate failures for the stock one? What are the conditions that have the most risk for failure?

Thanks in advance!

I carry my camera on a tripod over my shoulder all the time when I'm out in the woods etc. All the stress is on the one connection point where the tripod plate attaches to the camera. With this plate the pressure is spread out over the entire bottom of the camera.

Plus on my 170 it lines up the tripod mount center not offset.

I haven't seen an HPX or HVX fail but there have been some pics floating around of dvx plates getting pulled out and bent.

I don't imagine the design is too different.

Hi everyone. Spec-Comm recently became a dealer for my base plates and will be selling the Sony EX1 and EX1R plates also.

I haven't seen an HPX fail but I have seen an HVX200 and it cost my friend $1000 to have Panasonic fix it. The Sony EX1's have been failing also. If you are doing any kind of shooting like I do where you move around allot and shoot outside putting your tripod on your shoulder with the camera attached this is a must have. For the HPX / HMC the alignment of the lens and mounting hole is worth it alone... Plus all the base plates have multiple 1/4" and 3/8" mounting holes to give you allot of options for different mounting situations.

Well, I certainly can't make one so it was a good investment for me. Price is all relative. For me, it was worth it.
