New Macbook Pro's

MAC has wasted no time completely turning its back on the only people that would by their computers 10 years ago, creatives and electronic artists.

Can you imagine the flame war if you had suggested a decade ago that mac would be the biggest seller of mp3 players and cell phones.

This makes me sad. I decided on PC a few years ago because of moves like this. And how you had to constantly upgrade your OS just to update your NLE. I am sure this makes great business sense, but for a company that has been so anti-establishment they seem to have no problem becoming "the man" Pro apps users helped sustain and build this company.

Not cool.

Its ironic that they put the word "pro" into all their laptop offerings now. No esata, no Blueray, no PCMCIA, no express slot, no FW 400 (only ONE fw 800 port), no CF card slot (almost all top end SLR Cameras and the RED ONE shoots onto CF).

Whats so pro about the new MacBook Pro lineup again ?

the word "pro" could just be standing for "pro-sumer"
atleast thats what they are now targeted to.... at best

I think features like dual monitor support, FW800 and gigabit ethernet are pretty Pro-y.

Aren't these all historically found on Apple's Pro products, and are now on their consumer lineup?

Long live 17-in-1 memory card readers :)

as disappointing as it is, you can still get screamingly fast previous generation(non-aluminum) refurbished 15" macbook pros from the apple store for $1349 for a 2.4ghz and $1499 for a 2.5ghz. the advantage of these is that they still have both a seperate firewire 400 and 800 connection. perfect for let's say an aja ioHD and sonnettech F3 Fusion setup. this would be my next macbook pro set up.

I'm telling you, they just upgraded the old Macbooks to prepare for the launch of a cheap, sub 500 dollar Macbook to compete with the whole netbook craze.

and the moon orbits the earth. What does your point have anything to do with the topic of this thread ?

Everyone else, instead of just Bitchin about the issue here, let apple knows what YOU ! THE CUSTOMER WANTS FROM THE MBP RANGE OF PRODUCTS, click here . Remember they took away Firewire, and now it is back.

I'm looking at purchasing the JVC-HM100 so I don't see the problem, especially with the firewire ports coming back. A lot of pro-sumer people are switching to SD Card cameras and the people who can afford Express card cameras can probably afford a 17 inch MBP. Personally I'll be downgrading to a Powerbook because I mainly use my laptops for writing. 12 inch Powerbook here I come. I may actually go with a Macbook if I can find another one for $450 (someone needed money right away and was selling their Macbook) on Craigslist. My goal is an Intel iMac but then again a friend of mine just got a G5 and loves it. I'm somewhat torn. I'm also now looking at MacPros considering prices are dropping.

ProApps are not going anywhere - wait until Snow Leopard is out. As to HW - you got the 17"; anyhow, for editing on the go, wouldn't you rather look at a 17" screen than a 15"? Blu-ray - legit complaint, hopefully it'll get there early 2010.

On another note, the 13" would've been super cool for portability, except they removed the audio in, just to f*** with musicians :(

Apple is slipping! They just killed mobile professional video on the mac. Firewire 800 is so much slower than expresscard.
Transferring files are going to be much slower.

It is now time to get a hackintosh. My 3 macs and 2 iPhones don't approve of this update.
