Re: New link on Panasonic.com to DVXUser.com

That would explain why this board has been crawlin' lately...

Re: New link on Panasonic.com to DVXUser.com

As I type, there are 38 guests and 25 registered users active on the forum right now. Jarred, I'm curious what the hardware and software specs are on the server?

Re: New link on Panasonic.com to DVXUser.com

Its not the server, its the script, that I have been messing with this morning ripping out the bloated stuff, I may just drop YABB and goto Vbulletin or something, as I already took out alot of stuff and the script still is stealing 40% of CPU usage.

Sever is a 4 processor Xeon Pentium at 2.4hz x 4 , with 8GB of memory.

If you think of changing, take a look at phpBB (http://www.phpbb.com/).

Sever is a 4 processor Xeon Pentium at 2.4hz x 4 , with 8GB of memory.

That should be a fine system for running the board. Also, check for low disc space and/or if it needs to be defragmented.

Re: New link on Panasonic.com to DVXUser.com

It looks like the CGI script is Perl. If this is a Unix box, and you are running Apache as the webserver, you can use the Mod_Perl plugin which will speed up a lot of Perl processing...

Re: New link on Panasonic.com to DVXUser.com

Thanks for the tips. The problem with going to another makers board is that we loose not only member lists, but all the messages.

Re: New link on Panasonic.com to DVXUser.com

So Panasonic finally had the sense to put up a link. I'm sure a *lot* of DVX100's have been sold because of this board--they should be kissin' your sweet behind for all the free support and promotion this site serves up. :-)

Loosing the message archive would be a disaster at this point--there's a wealth of information here. Now, if we could only get folks to use the search function before they ask the same question that's been answered three times before--*that* would be progress.

Re: New link on Panasonic.com to DVXUser.com

ha ha..

Yes its very nice to get recognition from Panasonic USA, specially because I am actually in Canada (even though the servers are in the US and 90% of the members are American.

I spent the entire day yesterday going through the code and I think the speed problem is now reasonable.

Re: New link on Panasonic.com to DVXUser.com

So true Barry_S!

Panasonic should be extremely, extremely, extremely thankful that such a great informational and promotional resource for their product exists.

And it's absolutely FREE!!!  Didn't cost them a dime.

I wonder how many dimes they've made due to the invaluable insight found on this board which swayed buyers to choose the DVX?

Panasonic should be paying for the DVXUser.com servers and hosting fees.

No... scratch that!  If that happened they would want to *control* us.

They should just hook Jarred up with a free SDX-900... SERIOUSLY!

The head cheese at Panasonic Canada should be shaking in his snow-covered boots after learning of this latest upgrade in power.

I remember J-Dogg posting that the Panny Canny head guy doesn't like him/us because he/we are not more *controllable*

In your face... Pana-Cana guy.  :P :P :P

Re: New link on Panasonic.com to DVXUser.com

Terry--you're right on the money. I was thinking that if I was the marketing director at Panasonic, I would be sending Jarred lots of goodies. They *should* send him an SDX-900. Yeah, I saw the "controllable" remark before and thought, what an insecure doofus! This board is a marketing department's wet dream. Not only influencing purchase decisions, but handholding users through technical problems and supporting users in every aspect of filmmaking. On second thought, scratch the SDX-900, make it an HDC27F HD Varicam.

Re: New link on Panasonic.com to DVXUser.com

Hey I want to say thanks Jarred for all your efforts as well. (You definitely deserve a free camera for all your hard work.) I remember when DVXuser.com was nothing but a glimmer in your eye... "Zoomforce" was a major presence on the 2-pop forum but that wasn't enough. You had the idea for a new forum - "if I build it, they will come." And the rest, as they say, is history. You've made it a great one!

Now if I can just get someone to tell me what that damn click is when I move my camera... :D

Re: New link on Panasonic.com to DVXUser.com

I concur. PANI should hook Jarred up. One of the first and EXCLUSIVE to the DVX100 supporters (Not a thread buried in umpteen others); is this not the ONLY DVX site out there?

If PANI had skills they would hook him up bigtime. Jan? You listening?

Re: New link on Panasonic.com to DVXUser.com

Yes I do.

Funny. Now that I think about it; this is the foremost site on the DVX100 (as Barry mentioned; Alexa has it ranked at 60,000 or so...) and no PANI REPS ever come in here.

Weird huh?

In fact, the PANI rep only has 20 posts!

Well, none that publicly make themselves known.

They might be lurking about. 8)
