NEW indiSLIDER 99 Bucks

I want one... hope they send to Oz.... tried to get a lens gear before and nothing happened...

Cheers

Wanted to buy indiSlider , calling the phone number that on your website , writing e-mails , nobody answers . It's very strange . I have some questions to ask before i buy.

I don't have any personal experience with Indislider so I can't comment on their customer service, but I ordered a Glidetrack Compact about 3 days ago from Glidetrack. I had emailed Alastair (owner of Glidetrack) with a question, he answered right away, I placed my order online and it has already shipped Fed-Ex, due to arrive today. All this within three days and it's coming from the UK (I'm in the U.S.). Great service indeed! The ability to get a response out of a company in a timely manner is very important to me.

Hey Buck, I've been watching this thread but am daunted by the companies lack of communication with so many potential purchasers, so haven't made a purchase decision yet.
Could you please post how you like the Glidetrack once you get it? Thanks!

Had a long convo on the phone with Tim this morning. Here's what happened.. He buys the gearboxes from a supplier in the UK and then modifies them in his shop. Well, the UK has been slow getting him new units because they won't work overtime. He said they won't work overtime because the govt taxes them at a much higher rate and they can't afford to pay overtime because of this. They also can't afford the required benefits package to higher new employees. Basically, thay can't meet demand due to the govt restrictions.
He is going to try and get mine out the door this week. He's pretty irritated at the situation so he is trying to make the gearboxes in house.

Hopefully he can get p and running on the new gearboxes.

He's a great guy, and I can tell he's sincere.

thats too bad, just sent him an email yesterday but now it doesn't look like he may be answering it. might be taking my business elsewhere :(

I ordered the Indislider mini deluxe on the 19th of May, got an automated same day. A week later I got the Fedex tracking number and the slider came yesterday (2nd of June). I'm based in London and got here in just under 2 weeks. (I haven't had to pay any tax duties yet).

The slider is actually smoother than I anticipated and I was worried about the wobble people had written about but it seems pretty sturdy. Maybe Tim has made some adjustments. The pistol grip is a nice touch I might even be able to get some vert-shots with it, we'll see...

Overall I'm happy with my purchase, if you're reading this Tim, thanks!

Hey guys, I just found this thread through google and wanted to follow it. I just bought the indisystem mini slider and I have to say it looks really promising. That 80/20 material is great stuff. The carriage on my unit wobbles a bit but I think I can fix it by inserting a few shims underneath the plastic pieces that rub against the slider rail.

One thing I am thinking might make this whole thing slide smoother is to remove one of the plastic pieces directly under the top part of the carriage. I haven't done a test yet but having 1 guide vs the 2 that come with it seems to not cause as much of the 'stutter' effect you sometimes get with top heavy cameras. I think this coupled with tighter rails (they need to tighten less than 1mm) will really allow this thing to shine.

Anyone have any suggestions on this plan and what others have done to make theirs smoother? I'm going to make one of the biggest behind the scenes videos with this new slider so you guys can see it in action during a HUGE photoshoot. Check out fstoppers.com if you enjoy behind the scenes videos and we are giving a HD DSLR camera away too in 30 days.

Tighten the tension screw. That's it. It should be tight enough that it takes a little bit of effort to slide it. Get that right and it should eliminate any looseness and/or shake.

I purchased the upgraded version of the $99 one ($160, I think), and I can report that it does work. It's not perfect, but if you tighten the tension screw, it indeed does the job and delivers footage you can use.

In terms of build quality -- it's quite solid. I don't understand the complaints in this thread about build quality.

My Canon 7D is now permanently attached to it. I imagine I could try it with a 150/170, but haven't. I would never attempt one of those cameras with a 35mm lens adapter on this $160 version. I'm told an adapter rig could work with the "pro" series.

I think this is not a good idea because 1) tightening that screw creates an uneven pressure point which can cause more gliding problems and 2) if you tighten that screw then you run the risk of it digging into the track which overtime could create a less smooth surface on the track itself.

I just bought some aluminum shims and am about to modify mine. I'll let you know how it goes

You honestly believe the plastic tension screw on the base is going to dig into the aluminum track?

Mine isn't plastic, it's black brushed steal or aluminum. And yes, I tried it a few times and already have scrapings along that side of the track where the screw dug in. I can only imagine what would happen after a year of use

I got mine moving really smooth now though. What I did was take a thin business card and use it as a shim underneath one of the side plastic rails because my carriage was wobbling a little on the length axis of the carriage. I then removed one of the top plastic guides that is mounted directly under the camera screw. So basically my unit now only has 3 guides instead of 4 (two on sides and now only one underneath) and one of those side tracks was raised just a tiny bit with a thin business card underneath one of the sides. It works amazing now and is much smoother than my friends ZaZa/glidetrack slider. I'm really happy with this unit. Now I have to put it through the long term test; hopefully it holds up in 8 months.

Unfortunately my plastic tension screw head broke. The problem is that due to the fact there is absolutely no reply to e-mails or feedback to queries from clients, I will never be able to get a replacement one from Indisystems.
