New HPX500 Pricing!

Spec-Comm

Hello all,

Panasonic has made things even simpler for those that are interested in purchasing the AG-HPX500.

All you have to do is order the HPX500-EFP package (this is the only way to order the HPX500 now,) fill out a rebate form and you get a $2000 rebate check in the mail!

It's as simple as that.

There has also been some new pricing released for the Canon 16x 2X lens so that it is more competitive with the Fujinon. On top of that, Spec-Comm has reworked all of our lens pricing to be even more competitive. This is all really exciting! :)

So let's work some numbers real quick so that we can see how this reflects on total pricing:

HPX500-EFP $11,500 - $2000 rebate= $9500
Canon 16x 2X or Fujinon 17x 2X is now only $8600!
Add that to the price of the camera after the rebate and you get $18,100.
X4 16GB P2 Cards at the Spec-Comm overstock sale price (4 x $800 = $3200) that gives you a total so far of $21,300.

Now pay with a certified check or bank wire transfer and get an additional 2% off for a total of $20,874!

Please remember too that you need to register your camera for a 4-year extended warranty and you're all set.

Please keep in mind that are a slew of other lenses and accessories for your HPX500 to choose from to make your shooting experience even better.

Please call or email if you have any questions.

Good thing my 500 has made far more than that $2000 over the past 6 months, or I might be somewhat miffed! ;)

I spent less than $2000 on my last car!
Do retail price drops usually push rental prices down right away or does it take awhile?

I dont get pana US. I understand NAB is around the corner and they want people to commit now other than wait. But just dropping the butt out of prices is like throwing ones hands up and saying - my product cant compete, I will drop the price (so what if people spent a few grand more a few months ago, screw loyal customers). BTW Im not saying this is what pana ever said but my own perception of such an action.

Fortunately here in Japan Panasonic prices remain pretty constant for some time.

On the other hand another good deal at spec comm

Not quite 12months since it was released, makes you wonder if Sony XDcam PDW-F350's which have been around since 06 will start going cheap too

I was talking to sales guy a few days ago and he said nothings moving right now. I don't know if the camera has sold as many units as they predicted it would. It falls in an odd sort of range. The pros look at like its just a big 200 and aren't really interested and the indie filmakers would rather have the 200 and some primes at a lower price.
Its a good camera for what it is but it has some issues. The P2 workflow is still anathma for some clients. I have a few that won't use it for any reason.

I still think its a good camera for giving your clients HD production at a reasonable price point. That said as the sensors get cheaper they're going to have to have a full raster camera at somewhere near this price point sooner then later.
The amount of time a camera remains on the cutting edge is becoming shorter all the time. I see a time when 2 years is the max you'll get out of a camera before its overtaken by technology.

Price drops 2 weeks before NAB means new cameras are coming out and time to sell existing inventory. Not sure if Sony's 350 XDCAM's are flying out the doors, but I have noticed more of them in my Wash. DC market since prices dropped in anticipation of the newer 355.

Hmmm... I don't see this as a huge drop as I paid $21,028.68 back in September for my 500 with the Fuji 2X lens (no rebate).

Of course, one has to buy a battery system as well. I like the idea of the HPX500 -- reasonable 2/3" camera, all solid state. But as a previous poster said, it's in no man's land between the HVX shooter and the hardcore Varicam eng shooter. Tough place to be. But I wouldn't mind using a real eng lens for once instead of the HVX's more prosumer controls.

Discounted HPX500 and HD lenses

Hi Andrew,

Could you please give details and model #s of the discounted lenses you mentioned? I couldn't find any lenses listed for $8600 on the spec-comm website.

Many thanks,

Well, uh, yeah, that's what that would mean. That's crazy. That's the deal of the decade.

Still need to buy a power solution ($325 from batteries4broadcast) and a lens (people are reporting success with SD lenses even) so you could potentially have a working 2/3" camera for under $10,000. Crazy.

That is the deal of the decade. To get the rebate, though, you have to buy the "EFP" kit, (includes tripod plate and bag) which is $10.5K at B&H. Even so, it's only $500 more than body alone, so still great value.

I just happened to stumble across this dramatic price-drop of the HPX-500 tonight while searching cameras on B&H.

I was bored and decided to check out the Pre-NAB status of various cameras on B&H to see where the HVX was priced lately, etc. Then, low and behold, a 3x2/3" HD camera drops to 8 grand....?

When I see activity like this it gives me an idea of what's around the corner at NAB.

IMO, Panasonic has gotten wind of something with similar specifications to be revealed at an equally attractive price-point.

Rather than introduce an entirely new camera, they appear to be acting pre-emptively by adjusting the cost of a current production camera to accomodate and try to remain competitive.

....maybe it's Scarlet, maybe it could even be the highly anticipated 2/3" HD cinecam from Canon.

Actually I think youll find its 9500 after rebate. Even so, and I have to say, for that price and the fantastic images its well worth it. Im not as optimistic as Barry that you can have a fully functioning setup for under 10k but still, it depends what you want. People are posting SD broadcast images and I dont think they compare (just my opinion).

So whats the story guys - is it not 10500 when added to cart, then 8500 after rebate?

Does the rebate apply if i order one from B&H in the UK? :P

Its probably the new upgraded hvx200a that is going to make the hpx500 not worth 5x the price. So, this means there will be no upgrade to the current hpx500 at NAB. It might be the new hvx200a is going to be better spec-wise vs the hpx500. I dont expect TC in/out on the hvx though.

On the current B&H product page here
The cart price is 10 grand, coupled with the 2 grand rebate would knock it down to 8 grand. Unless there's a catch I've not been made aware of.

The catch is that the rebate is only on the HPX-500 EFP "kit" Link here., which after rebate brings the price down to $9500.00

Still an excellent deal.
