New HD Timelapse

I don't have any traps so I just have to be ready when they get into the kill zone. As for the lights in the sky. A lot if them are small planes and helicopter. That's why they move all over the place.

What my brother "might" have his hand on in his pocket could look almost like this.

KABAR.jpg

Marine Corps Kabar is a VERY coonvincing way to say "NO"....ask me how I know. :)

McGee, I'm sure you've had some kind of experience like I have were you have to defend yourself with a weapon. I've only had to pull my knife out once and that was when I was skateboarding down in Huntington Beach. It was two idiots against me. If I had to used it against them it would have been self defence because the guy grabbed me by the neck and the other guy was hitting me in the back of the legs with my own board. All I did was ask him to move, nicely because he was standing in a skate park. But once that blade came out they didn't want any part of that. But because I choose to defend myself they called the cops and we both got arrested. The other guy escaped because I was the only one handcuffed on the ground.

But believe it or not for the most part I'm a mellow guy. Just as long as you don't try to take my gear or fight me for no reason.

That's why you have to be carefull. That's a pretty sad story, you tried to defend yourself, and next thing you know you're the one getting cuffed. Did the cops let you go? At what point did your' story get through? What was their' advice or warning to you for the next time? I think here in canada a knife over certain inches is illegal to carry around. When i was younger a bunch of us got caught for smoking up in some building basement. They found a small switchblade on me that my dad had brought back from germany. I told the cops it was a gift from my dad, and they thankfully let me keep it.

The guy didn't press charges because he would have been charged with assault or battery. So here's what happened. I asked the guy to move and he went straight over to me and started yelling at me about asking him to move. I was just standing there waiting for him to do something. He grabbed me by the neck trying to push me back. But he was a smaller mid 40's guy so he was having no luck with that. As soon as he did that I had my hand on my knife. I was waiting for him to hit me or something. Then his brother-in-law took my board and started hitting me in the back of the legs. I didn't feel it because either the guy swings a board like a girl or I was just so pumped up on that dude grabbing me. I started walking into the guy grabbing me pushing him back without touching him. Then they started trying to throw my board over the fence. Some 11 year old kids got my board back to me when both the guys came back over to mess with me. When they tried to get the board away from me again that's when my knife came out. They were saying that I shouldn't have done that. But once that happened they put the board down and called the cops. The cops were there in a minute because the station was across the street. So 7 cops show up and they tell me to get on the ground with their hands on their guns. I did what they said and they cuffed me and got my knife out of my pocket. They thought I was on drugs or something because I was so calm...haha. So as they were taking the two guys' statement that assaulted me I was sitting in the park hand huffed for 45 minutes. The guys were trying to tell the cops that I tried to hit them with my skateboard but I had 30 some odd wittinesses saying that they attacked me. The older cops were total dicks and didn't even want me to talk. So I had the older guy that grabbed me arrested and we were both taken in. As I said the brother-in-law got away. So I got finger printed and mug shots taken. Plus I got to sit in a holding cell for over 3 hours. But that's all that happened. The cops took my knife and my board into evidence. I got them back in 90 days. I had plenty of other knives but I had to buy another complete skate setup. So that's what happens when you try to defend yourself. If charges would have been pressed it would have been for branashing a deadly weapon. But I'm almost sure I would have beatin it on self defence.

Was he in your' way while you were skate boarding? Why did you ask him to move? That's a great story, thanks for sharing. It's actually kind of crazy. I always thought the skate board was the best weapond. And it's relatively legal. What was that older guy doing hanging around the park? And you got printed for the ordeal? i assume that doesn't mean a criminal record? Doesn't sound good though. I assume you were innocent, and these creeps got away with not just what they had done, but with calling the cops and making you a suspect. And you did what you had to do. Was there a possitive side, or something you learnt from this experience?

Yeah I learned make sure to use the knife if it comes out...that way the guy would have been too busy bleeding all over the place to call the cops. Of course I'm kidding. Since no charges were filed I have nothing on my record...at least nothing that prevents me from owning a gun. I've heard that if you get something like that on your record your kind of screwed. The reason I asked the guy to move was because he was in my landing zone. He was there watching the track and field event that was going on at the high school. I guess his kid was in it. I'm not sure why the other side of the fence in a skatepark is better to watch something like that then say, maybe the bleachers. If I can find the mug shots I'll post them here.

In all honesty I don't mind little run-ins like this because it just makes me that much more comfortable in those types of situations. I'm mainly talking about the confrontation with the two guys not the cops. Being a skater you run into the cops more often than not and 90% of the time they are total asses. Like over this last weekend I was taking some pictures of this guy I know skateboarding in the fenced off school when the cops came. They opened up the gate and told us to get out. On the way out one of them had his night stick out like he was going to use it. The other cop asked who had the camera, I kept my mouth shut of course. But he said that if he comes back here again and we're here he said that he would take the camera and the skateboards. Now in the US we have this little thing called the Bill of Rights. The 4th Amendment is suppose to protect people from just this very thing. I wanted so bad to get into it with the cops but the guys I was with wanted to just leave. I don't mind getting a ticket for skating or for tresspassing. But they would have no right, in this situation to take my gear.

ahhh confrontations.... the fuzz... peaceful timelapses.. LA fo' sure. Seems like everytime I've been to LA there's been some mess to deal with. That's where the work is.. but also where the whackos are. Like last time I was there, 6 people I knew had their cars jacked from their parking garage one night. A guy with an M16 held up a store down the street.. and we got to witness 2 cops beating the crap out of some dude. Ahhhh MAYBERRY...

I've encountered all manner of sketchy people and bad situations while shooting. My first instinct is to protect and secure the gear.. and then to use some whoop ass to clear the situation. My kungfu instructor tells this really funny story about this time he was robbed at knife point... and he took the knife away from the guy in one move... then he gave it back to the guy and asked if he wanted to try it again... The dude just ran off on that one.

Sometimes having a big knife is good too Drew. But what about your assault rifles? Maybe you could do a little something out of that Heat movie? film that with the HVX and that'd be some footie....

Justyn, did you watch the short film I did "Forever War". I got a couple of my guns in there. Also for the record the rifles I have aren't assault weapons, while they're in California. Fixed 10 round mag takes care of that. But when I go to AZ or outside of CA then they are assault weapons. I would like to do something like "Heat" but that would cost a bunch of money. I am planning on doing something out in the desert near Bullhead, AZ.

I'm also trying to get some timelapse out there with the stars. But the clip I got while I was out there last time is way to noisy because I shot it at 1600 ISO. You can see everything in the sky but I need to re-shoot it.

Snp, all the frames are medium jpeg and shot with a 20D. Then I take all those frames and let Motion put them together.

Nice again Drew! My favourite remains the airport -with the landing planes- part. And although the clouds are milky, I prefer the 20D.

Veeery nice!

What settings are you editing the jpeg-sequences at?

Gunleik
(Who'll be doing stuff with his D-200)

I have Motion doing all the handling of frames and I have it set at 720p 24p. But I could have the sequences all the way up to 2K if I wanted. I keep all the frames that I orignally got in the first place just incase somewhere down the road I want to go 2K with them.

I messed around with a couple of stuff panorama timelapse and motion control curved dolly track. right now i am working on those curve dolly tracks more -
all the stuff shot in Singapore, yes that's were my home is.
the panoramas are done with 3 different fisheye lens and one mirror.
The motion control was done with a motor which I made.

I am working on the motor more now, (actually the motor idea was inspired by ollie larkin's work 'lapses of light')
Got some other crazy stuff that I am trying out now, should be done in a weeks time.
