New HD Timelapse

Most of the time I'm out shooting bymyself. Its a nice little quiet time I get to just stand there and take in what I'm shooting.

It really is therapeutic isn't it? I love the product I end up with, but it's a nice bit of time to youself in places you don't normally find yourself in the usual 9 to 5 routine.

About half of the places I shoot these clips at are a little shady. Most of the time I have some way to protect myself just incase someone gets an idea in their head.

yeah drew, I wish I had a little something with me the other night.... I was shooting footy at about 4am in a shady part of town and I was approached by this dude who "wanted to learn photography" I quickly had to become proactive and try and stall this dude out, while I got my gear back near my jeep, right when I felt him about to make a move an unmarked police car drives by and pulls into a parking lot about a block away.... the dude, just kinda wandered off into the night as I packed my sh*t up and got the hell outta dodge

I was kind of shaken up afterwards for a bit because I could just tell this dude was about to do something, he looked visibly f**ked up on coke or rocks or something

I had something like that happen a couple months ago. But my little brother was out there with me and my HVX. I only got footage of my brother talking to this guy that was all jacked up. My brother kept looking over at me seeing if I was ready for what might happen. But I guess the guy that was eyeballing my HVX didn't feeling like getting into it with us. Good thing because I didn't feel like moving a body...hahaha just kidding fokes...or am I.

Do you have that footage Drew? Is it hd? Either way, I totally want to see that sh't.

Yes I do have it and I'll try and post it. Its nothing to exciting. Its just my brother talking to the guy with his hand in his pocket looking quickly to me then to the guy. I'll just post it in this thread to avoid another post.

Here's the clip dogcat.

What my brother "might" have his hand on in his pocket could look almost like this.

"I went out to shoot some timelapses and wound up killing a dude with a boot knife"

haha

oh man.... that would suck (for both parties)

It would be nice if people would leave me alone while I shoot my stuff and for the most part they do. But you have to be ready for anything if your by yourself. Eyes in the back of your head really help.

Funny stuff. I love the pan down to your' bro's hand in the pockets. Did he really have a big knife in there? The other guy sound pretty f'd up. I'm sure your sixth sense was telling you not to point the camera at the dude. Thanks for posting, i'd love to see more urban non fiction stuff from the hvx users

Timelapses are especially tricky at night for me, because I tend to do long-exposure stuff in remote, landscape setting. Star trails with rock formations in the foreground. If even ONE FRAME gets disturbed by someone with a flashlight or the headlights of a car, the whole timelapse -- which usually run for 6 hours or more -- can be ruined. I am thinking about getting some orange traffic cones to block off areas I am shooting, and maybe attach a little sign explaining what I am doing, with a chem-light attached.

Crazy Canadians. No offence to the Canadians here of course. I don't know...if that was my brother and I we might have at least knocked the guy on his ass. A good shove never hurt anyone...that much.

Tom, I don't have any of my timelapse sequences running as long as 6 hours yet but that would be a problem if someone came along and messed up the shot. The cones might not be a bad idea but you might get in trouble if the cops came by and saw it...maybe. I had to do that opening shot of LA on my long timelapse reel three times before it came out right. Mainly because something would happen that I needed to deal with.

When i'm out doing timelapses i tend to bring racoon traps and a shovel along. You make a largish circle with the traps around the "camp" , and believe me, when you are doing 6-12 hour timelapses it does starts feeling like a camp. The traps won't stop any humans from entering, but it will be your' first alert. That's when me and my cousin pull out the machetees and resolve the issue quickly. Since we are allready in the bush, we'll bury the bodies right there and then. With a six hour shoot we're lucky if we only have to dig 2 holes. Those 12 hour shoots are a little trickier. But hey, anything to save a good timelapse.

LOL. That's awesome, dogcat. I oftentimes take shovels and racoon traps with me all around while I shoot in touristy parts of San Francisco, but they don't go over so well once the old ladies from the retirement home walking tours start getting stuck in them.

Looks like you could have used some of those machetes when that dude hit your camera, though. I'm impressed you were able to keep your cool.

Drew599, nice work on the timelapses. Truly inspiring stuff, especially given what you had to go through to get it. A lot of those more erratic light blurs are probably helicopters, no? They look like UFO's, for real. I just remember the helicopters so much from when I used to live there, thwumping over my apartment building at 3am three nights a week. Ahhh, L.A.
