New forum design

the body face is harder to read. is it slightly condensed? and the kerning (character spacing) feels too tight as well

seems several of the type sizes changed for the worse and the color contrast (or lack of) in the date and reply number bar makes it damn near illegible.

and the gradient blue/white trim reply, quote, etc, buttons look WAY hacky.

i dont care for this at all. overall, the ease of read took a MAJOR hit

I don't care for the change either. The old version was much easier to read.

Plus, it looks very "kiddish" and much less professional overall than the old design.

Luckily it looks like you can still choose the old version with the drop down menu. Still, I'd like the old version back as the default, as I don't always log in when I'm just here to read.
 
please keep the old version selectable at the bottom of the home page. It's so much easier to read :)
 
Whew, I thought I was going crazy. I just got a new monitor and I thought it was something funky with the new one.
 
Not a fan. I think the design isn't that great...not particularly pleasing, harder to read, and I hate the buttons...the weird border looks strange, and the fonts aren't great. Much too horizontally oriented as well, in a time when the whole web is moving toward more vertical layouts. Some of the elements are clearly not thought out, colors on colors that are hard to read, etc. That blue on grey with the date/time is difficult to see...and that's just one example. This is really awful.

The old design was professional, clean, and to the point...this is not.

Sorry if someone worked hard on it but it does not work at all. Old design back to default please. I send people here all the time to look at things and now their first reaction will be, as mine was, "ew."

so, what gives? was it like someone earlier mentioned - a software upgrade?
or did somebody actually "design" it?
 
no. not a software upgrade. that style has been running for several months. I was piddling last night with the visibility of certain styles, and had changed v2 to be the default. been there for months at the bottom left in the drop down box... most people just hadn't noticed it :)
