GH4 New footage

4K / 10 bit out via HDMI / 96 fps in 2 K / new sensor / clean 800 & 1600 ISO / improved DR / focus peaking / much better wi-fi connection with minor latency while shooting / dial in s-log style gamma / dramatically faster and better AF .... and we can keep our old GH3 batteries, rig & whatnotelse .... for 1700 $. Hmmmm ... not such complicated decision.. okay, the espresso module is missing.

To the guys digging this GH4 footage - sincere question - are you seeing something more than just higher resolution (hacked) GH2/GH3 footage?
I actually really like the look of my GH3 footage. If the GH4 is nothing but a higher resolution GH3, I'm already happy. But it also shows slightly better shadow detail and dynamic range, and less moire/aliasing in 4K, so it's even better for me.

The built-in camera "mojo" is less and less relevant for me these days. With proper color grading, you can pretty much make any modern camera look like almost any other modern camera. What you can't really recreate is resolution and detail, which is why I'm so excited about the GH4.

Wow! That "most flattest" setting is really looking flat - but there's creeping in some noise. So I guess it's only useful with NR and downscaling to HD but at least it's built into the camera and probably useful for some purpose. Are we here in that "conservatively 11 stops area" the Panasonic Rep indicated in his Zakuto-interview or already in the 12 stops "greyzone" other sources cited? (There were other settings slightly darker and less prone to noise.)

More new footage. This is from Andrew Reid.

Absolutely gorgeous (especially downloading the full 4K file and playing it on a 2.5K 27" monitor). Other than the shutter speed (which he explained was because of lack of NDs that fit his lenses) I'm loving what's shown here. That Porsche shot is indeed incredible.

That was nice, verry nice. Some aboration but thats the lens, some artifacts that was totaly vimeo compression but as far as I saw no problems from the camera. Cant whait :)

I wonder if those excuses ever stop...Sorry, I forgot my NDs - Sorry, I didn´t have the proper adapter - Sorry, my dog ate my NDs....

I took it as an explanation as to why he had to run high shutter speed not an excuse. Obviously you have some axe to grind about past 'excuses' which are not a part of this topic.

Anything to say about the GH4 and sample footage?

Yeah i know. I gave Spielberg a good dressing down about this very issue in 1998. Bone idle bastard!
When are these people going to learn that their creative choices are completely beholden to my solitary personal whims?

If life were perfect we would all be sitting in a palace of gold with every whim and desire catered to…..
In the meantime, in the real world, we get on with it - with what we got.

FYI, he was using Cooke S4i cinema lenses, which have a 105mm filter thread. A 105mm ND9 filter runs between $270-$400. These lenses are usually used on film shoots with a matte box that holds rectanngular filters.
It is mentioned that he doesn't own 105mm filters. And perhaps he didn't feel like using a matte box. The Cooke lenses do the job of testing for sharpness and 4k resolving ability of the GH4.
