GH4 New footage

GH4 shows a lot of promise but I still wouldn't know what to do with it. I reckoned DSLR video shooting was dead due to the excellent video cameras with S35 sensors we now have at hand.

Nothing offers what the GH4 does at the price of $1600. That is where DSLR film making is still going strong.

There are plenty of people out there that do know what to do with it.

The GH4 looks to be a great little tool for the money. Especially with the addition of a Speed a Booster. We just sold our Red Epic and will use the GH4 along side the Amira, as well as a few other in-house cameras we have. But let's look at the reality of it all... The majority of our clients can't tell the difference between footage from a C100, Red Epic, AF100, or take your pick. We have been cutting together footage from different cameras for years now. We just pick the right camera for the job at hand.

Hybrid cameras still rule for gigs with heavy travel requirements... Having two of these ready to go in a single carry-on, with lenses, trumps a lot of cinema cam contenders. Doesn't hurt if the hybrid also packs a ton of professional video capabilities.

For low budget shooting DSLRs were never dead. Only for professionals that were stuck between the RED and the 5D and suddenly found a AF100 that fit their budget. The GH4 might be the best value for few money - and could even beat a AF100 ergonomically. (sorry for this somewhat redundant post - I didn't refresh my browser in time)

Well, that could be an honest typo. (I say this largely because I've just finished writing out several checks)

Of course this camera is not a single lens reflex, but it does offer great bang for the buck!

So far here is what I have into it.

Camera $1699
3 Extra Panasonic Batteries $162
2 Kingston 64B cards $213
1 KomtuterBay 128GB card & USB 3 Reader $86
Pelican SD Card Case $23
Total Investment: $2183

Youtube really sucks. It doesn't matter what resolution I select, when you freeze a frame it is always pixelated with mushed out details beyond any level of acceptability.

1:51 min.

hmmmm....download the .mov file and watch out for aliasing. I see more than on a BMCC and a bit less than on an 7D/5D. A bit dissapointing.
4k will be fine, but I was more interrested in the 1080 modes.

Definitely. At this point, I pretty much only watch camera tests when they're uploaded to Vimeo.

Yeah, even a screen grab at 2560x1600 gets completely destroyed by Youtube's compression. Look at the people crossing the street in the middle of the frame. The image attached is not zoomed in or uprezzed in any way. It's simply a straight crop from the still you posted.

According to youtube, even at 4k, people more than 10 feet away from you have no faces. It's like a scene from Jacob's Ladder.

lol great comparison!

I make sure whenever I email someone a draft of my video from youtube to add &hd=1 to the end of it so the video will automatically play in HD. It helps a lot
