Panasonic today announced a firmware fix for some issues:

Ver. 1.10-
Improvement

1) When the HDMI output is connected to BT-LH1850 monitor and displayed on it, once the monitor’s input setting is switched to SDI, "No Signal" is shown and no image will be displayed any more even if the setting is put back to HDMI. This problem is fixed.

2) Display of SENSOR TEMP at low temperatures is improved.

3) Panning at high speed may cause ghosting. This problem is fixed.

4) Focus Assists are not displayed on the SDI output destination when the LCD panel is disconnected. This problem is fixed.

5) An image on the LCD is defective when Open Iris F. A. is enabled. This problem is fixed.

6) Error in information superimposed on SDI (payload) at 24.00 Hz is corrected to 60.00.

7) Even if the Wi-Fi setting is switched from INFRA to DIRECT, the display of IP address will not change. This problem is fixed.

8) The camera cannot connect to Wi-Fi using D-Link DWA-171 (For Australian Market). This problem is fixed.

Has anyone tried it yet? I hate to be one of the first to jump in...? (will probably wait until after my shoot next week before updating)

Tried it. Camera still working. But the EVA has a long way to go. The Iris stutters and hangs up when shooting in the 120p 2k over-crank mode. I'm going to give it some time lack of intuitive menu (who calls frame rates "Frequency??) Honestly, the menu is circa 1985 .... down right archaic. The DVX was an intuitive dream... what happened?

Agree with spiral.

Also disappointed to not see even 1 of the many glaring issues I posted here and looped Mitch on last month.

I know these take time, but I’d love some indication that these are being worked on...

Panasonic has, and has done so since the original 2/3" VariCam. That's because there's a separate spot for the "FPS" under the Variable Frame Rate. But Frequency refers to the base clock rate at which all of the material is to be played back. Back in the day it altered the actual speed the tape transport ran, because there was a real difference from running it at 59.95 wersus 60.00. And for professionals who must deliver products at an exact run time it still matters.

Your suggestions have been noted. These things take time and this was a bug fix update, not a "change/add features" update. Very different thing.

Hi Mitch, thank you for your response. We spoke at the SF road show.... Thanks for explaining"frequency" calibration and notation. It just seems as if this camera was made to fill the "middle" - the tween camera that would (mostly) serve pro-sumer and medium format. For those of us continuing our way up the camera food chain, it was confusing. The manual that came with the camera was like the manual one gets with a new car..."how to turn it on and turn on the lights." I found the full 200+ page manual and downloaded, but I am hoping Barry Green does his magic with an explanatory book. While I appreciate Panasonic jumping into the "tween" category, I still stick to my guns on the archaic menu. It takes three steps in the menu to reset FPS and recording format, and while I understand the user presets, it could definitely be more intuitive for faster speed on the set.

I took the chance and left the purchase of another brand, as I told you in SF. I hope it pays off and that Panasonic continues its commitment to firmware upgrades. I also appreciate the position you are in, having to make everyone happy, and that being said, I'm just giving my .02 to help make the camera even better :)

Thank you for reading all of our moans *smiles*

Please note for bug report: The camera is experiencing hang-ups and the shutter change dial stutters when at high frame frame 120 2k.

sweet.

Would love to get the details on RAW. Maybe Mitch can answer now.

* How does 4K Crop RAW up to 60p work? Does this mean it takes a center 4K portion of the 5.7k sensor, so we lose the downrezzed detail we'd get from 4K 60p internal 8-bit (5.7k down to 4k), but we gain RAW with the cropped 4K? What crop factor does this introduce on lenses, if any?

* 2K RAW Crop up to 240p. Nice. So am I understanding the following correctly:

EVA1's super high detail comes from acquiring 5.7K and downsampling, which will only get full impact of via 5.7K RAW modes if we want that. Otherwise, we'll sacrifice some overall detail rendering but gain more FPS? So...

5.7K RAW up to 30p
4K RAW Crop 30p-60p (Due to crop, some loss in total detail rendering + slight lens crop factor?)
2K RAW Crop 60p-240p (Due to crop, further loss in total detail rendering + larger lens crop factor?)

All look right?
