OT:
I never bothered to pick up a card reader...can I update the firmware by just connecting the camera to my laptop?
I don't think they tried to fix it at all. The firmware update release notes don't say anything about it.It looks to me that Canon tried fixing those color shifts (which is basically what they were going after with this new firmware). The thing is though it looks like something changed (slightly) for the better in 1080p but slightly worse in 720p.
Then, is this firmware update something I want to do?
They only released it so that Tramm could get his hands on it....that's all.
Hood, Magic Lantern and the main system firmware are separate things. No reason not to upgrade.
Yeah, I'm sure that Canon Japan made a firmware update with the express purpose of getting it into the hands of a guy who makes a piece of software that a fraction of their customers use.
Well, yeah, but... phenomenal word of mouth will spread, and Canon USA (which is still the world's biggest market) gets a big leg up on the competition, for free, with no downside... I wouldn't be surprised at all if the Canon USA guys nagged Japan to release a firmware update at the earliest possible moment.Yeah, I'm sure that Canon Japan made a firmware update with the express purpose of getting it into the hands of a guy who makes a piece of software that a fraction of their customers use.
Yes, it's just the mode that must not be spoken of.
1080 still looks acceptable to me.
