FS5: New firmware is up. V4.02

Has anyone downloaded this and tested at iso2000 to an external recorder? I'm keen to see how much of a difference this makes now the iso is lowered

I have the same question and downloaded the update yesterday. I will try to do some testing this weekend to see if I notice any difference.

Thanks William, very keen to see the difference especially with some movement in the camera to see how it holds up after compression.

I've installed 4.02, but before I did, I carefully set up a test shot and monitored the exposure on my wafeform monitor so I could see the difference after I updated the firmware. With the camera set at 0dB before and after the firmware update, I can see no visual difference after grading. None. Keep in mind that the difference between 2000 ISO and 3200 ISO is only .67 EV so you're not talking about a radical change. 2/3 of stop is almost insignificant. Nevertheless, the new firmware does offer some other benefits for an excellent non-SLOG picture profile that I'm working on now. I'm really, really, liking what I'm seeing so far.

I create them myself from scratch.

I don't want to put words in his mouth, but I believe he means where can other users find your profiles. I'm very interested in your new, non slog profile, as I've used your version from the series and it's excellent. I shoot for broadcast sports and about 98% of the time I don't get to edit what I shoot, so I like to give the editor the best baked in look (also, they love to throw awful filters on my footage if I shoot it kind of flat haha).

The new gammas look pretty good.

I have a question about the hlg profile. The HLG gamma looks great out of the box with no grading. I guess that's the point, but if one did wish to tweak the look in resolve for example, do you know the best approach?

I assume you would need to set the timeline colorspace in resolve to rec2100HLG color space ? Is there anything else to set to grade hlg properly ?

I'm interested in both scenarios. It would be great to know what a good gradeable HLG setting is for personal projects. A solid WYSIWYG setting is also very important for the quick turnaround stuff we shoot for work.

I just updated the firmware on my FS5 this morning and shot some test clips. In addition to S-LOG having the new 2000 ISO setting, I've noticed the non S-LOG Picture Profiles have lower minimum ISO settings as well. My CINE2 profile begins at ISO 500 instead of 1000.

However, I'm having problems transcoding the HLG clips in Adobe Media Encoder. It keeps crashing. Has anyone else experienced this?

How are you finding the new lower iso2000?

I haven't had time to do extensive testing as this is the busy month at my job so I'm stuck in an edit suite.
I recorded a few S-LOG3 clips internally with the new ISO2000 setting and compared it to 3200. I recorded 1080p clips. It's slightly cleaner in terms of noise but upon applying the LUT, there's still quite a bit of banding in the blue sky and the signature magenta blotches amongst the blue of the sky. The CINE2 shots look much better in this regard, especially since the ISO can now be set to 500.
It's possible that ISO2000 S-LOG clips recorded externally to the Shogun will look better, but I haven't had the opportunity.

The HLG footage looks desaturated and just strange in terms of gamma. With more time, testing and tweaking, I might find a non-HDR use for that Picture Profile.

Thanks dvbrother, I would be interested to see how it handles to an external recorder at iso 2000. I'm keen to pick up a fs5 but still sceptical if it will be a cleaner image than my 5 year old fs700/oddysey 7q setup which produces stunning imagery.....

Are you using the Raw output of the FS700 to the Odyssey? If so, yes the imagery will be hard to beat. However, in terms of weight, ease of use, built-in variable ND and more, the FS5 is more fun to use than the FS700.

I'm just surprised that if using the Odyssey 7q with the fs5 that the results would be different. Same sensor, now has the same iso 2000 rating but something is happening between the sensor and the feed the Odysseys taking as the FS5 is just not as clean

Is there a way toby online and download the licence CBKZ-FS5HFR

Update.... problem solved, licence installed and it Works properly
