New Final Cut Pro Announcement at SuperMeet?

@fcpsupermeet is reporting on Twitter that it wasn't totally clear in the hall presentation, but it looked like all timeline based applications from the FCP Suite have now been merged into FCP.

Maybe it's just me, but I like doing specific things in specific apps. I wanna edit, export everything I need, then bring my assets in to something like DVDSP and just focus on my authoring there.

Asa a Color user, I'll have to disagree with this one.

Matt, I have to agree with you. Color was one of the best parts of the suite. I hope that either they merged all of the functionality of Color into this thing, or they offer us an upgrade path from the old suite.

This looks like a great upgrade. Easy to use, intuitive. I can't wait to read the details but i'm excited about it.

Basically Apple has been just adding on to the original format, who made it first, macromedia ?

I remember I said this years ago that Apple should make it easier to use, and not have to click all the time to do basic moves (like sony vegas) but members on another forum told me that this is how 'professional' software is. Argument made no sense. Glad to see Apple doing this and taking advantage of 64bit.....finally get to use my macbook pro for all the power it has !

At $299, what's to lose. About Blueray support, Apple believes in streaming media. Blueray will be dead in a few years anyway. NATIVE editing is a good thing here for AVCHD. We'll still be able to use prores, so ninja and Kipro will still be good for acquisition. I'm excited! Adobe is probably crapping their pants about that $299 price tag. Good times!

Until I can play with it, I'm on the fence. Found out a post house here in town is beta testing it. I can't wait to call tomorrow and ask.

I think there's a lot to like with this announcement. But, I think Adobe still might have an advantage in CS5 and 5.5. While Apple
announced that FCP-X is OpenCL capable, they didn't specifically announce what parts of the system could or would use GPU
acceleration. In the case of Premiere, that's a known quantity.

Further, 64bit brings FCP to parity with Premire (as of CS5). Apple has hinted that with their "grand central dispatch" pipeline,
that they're using the cores efficiently. IMHO, this remains to be proven how well their rendering pipeline makes use of
available compute resources.

Apple also announced "mixed format" neutrality (to some degree), but they also hinted at an ingest process that
is still required for many features to be activated. So, which is it? Native format neutral (as Premiere and Avid
have been honing in on) or Native format tolerant (which appears to be the case with FCP-X).

I like the audio enhancements .. long overdue .. doing audio in FCP is something I just don't do and escape out
to Protools HD for that. Hopefully, not so much with FCP-X.

If there's one company that is likely pooping their pants it's the Plural-Eyes guys ... they just lost a very
popular platform.

The color conformance is interesting .. but I doubt many colorists will lose sleep over it.

I very much like the key command enhancements... i hate fumbling between mouse and keyboard.

I'm also intrigued by the composite clip features .. "multi-clip" in FCP was so limited that melting
the multiclips was so frequent that I wondered why I bothered.

So .. as an FCP user and lover .. I feel Apple has gained parity (to some degree) and perhaps set themselves
up to make significant enhancements in the future. It also explains why FCP-7 had so little in it.

Playing back to Adobe/Avid .. with nothing apparently happening in Color, Compressor, Motion, Sound Track and DVD studio .. umm..
what's the "studio" workflow exactly?

As far as Blu-Ray .. IMHO this is pure Steve Jobs stubbornness.. it's going to be a while before you'll be getting 50GB over
your cable modem. They've already caved on that in the back end to some degree.

I guess we'll be keeping our DVD Architect copies for a while longer.

Crazy... We're still producing DVDs, people still listen to CDs and TAPES!, tons of people haven't even upgraded to HD TVs and even if they did, they have them connected through standard cable! Blurays are going nowhere my friend... not for YEARS no matter how you slice it.
That's nice that apple makes your decisions for you, that because they "believe" in streaming media that they don't need to provide for the rest of the world that wishes to author to bluray.
Adobe isn't crapping in their pants... They are probably laughing their asses off.. "Look guys... Adobe copied us, but left off a ton of stuff... Their followers are praising it like lemmings! ROFL... Looky there.. iMovie 20!.. haha"

A quote form AppleInsider:
In a nod to power users, Apple claims to have designed the new Final Cut Pro so that "everything can be driven from the keyboard."

I am definitely concerned about my GUI for Color. My Tangent Wave interface...
Wonder how Tangent is going to deal with this one.

Can't wait to see what other details emerge. Some things have me worried... like edit while importing? That sounds a lot like iphoto and itunes importing my media into their database structure. What if I don't want that? At this point, we're all conjecturing and it's getting us nowhere. I doubt that Apple would dumb down a pro application in such a way that we couldn't control it the way we wanted to. I doubt that they would make color correction less powerful than it was using Color... so I'm just going to try to keep an open mind and see what details emerge. This whole way of keywording things is new to me and I'm not sure I'll ever use it. Who knows...

That was more than a hint. They said plainly that you can "edit while ingesting" and "background rendering".. Sounds kinda like speedy ingest using more ram and 64bit environment and not actually editing native files like CS5.

You're correct in what they said .. but they could be doing meta-data file creation instead of format conversion .. not sure until I get more data.

Hmmm, as an ex FCP user and a current Premiere Pro CS5 user, I'm pretty satisfied. Final Cut Pro-X does look very interesting though. I'll have to wait until more solid information comes out in the coming months. Loving the low price point though. I'm not really concerned about the other Studio apps as I never used them.

Does anyone know if there will be a stream of the keynote online somewhere?

The FCP vs Adobe fight that this thread is leading towards is boring. The day Premier lands me a gig, I will use it. I just bought the 5.5 suite anyways. For now, all the NLE job offers that I get are FCP. I am sure there is plenty of Avid work out there, but I don't run Avid, so there.

I am mostly curious if they just merged most of studio into one program, or if we are still going to have a full suite.

Time to bite the bullet and go for a davinci. Now that they have made it XML compatible for easy round trip to/from fcp, it's a no brainer. I transitioned from color to davinci a couple months back. It's been pure heaven.

Regarding fcp, I'm going to stay positive until I can actually put my hands on it. But for now, I'm not feeling the new interface. Nothing sexy about the current one except that I know it like the back of my hand and can get my work done!!!

LOL, My friend, go to a Best Buy or Costco and have a look at Televisions. I would say a MAJORITY of sets there have youtube, netficks, facebook and all sorts of apps BUILT IN. I come from from a stills back round with a 20 year studio. For the past 6 years I have not sent a client a CD or a print. It's ALL DIGITAL TRANSFER. Look at print media, DYING! You don't think Apple and Steve Jobs has shaken industries? THE IPOD! Haven't bought a CD since. TAPES? LOL! Go find a Tower Records. Find a Music Plus. Shoot, find a record store! They're all DYING! Tapes?????? Maybe you drive a 1987 car, but that last 5 or 6 cars I've owned all had CD players at LEAST. The newest car I bought, not even a CD player, just and IPOD JACK.
Now, take a look at Ipads and other tablets. Ipad outputs 1080. Theaters display digitally. I'll bet the last thing you buy blueray will be a Playstation 3 game, and I'll wager that soon Sony will be streaming their games solely. Hell, you'll be lucky to find a Blockbuster soon. DVD rentals will be those dollar machines you see outside of convenience stores. It's been over a year since I rented or bought a DVD. The Ipod and now the IPAD or such tablets are QUICKLY going to change how you purchase and acquire visual entertainment. I for one can't think of ANYBODY I know that does not have an Ipod, and chooses to listen to CD's or TAPES!

Jeff says. "it's going to be a while before you'll be getting 50GB over
your cable modem."

Ummmm, do you have Direct TV or Cable? On demand service? Is that not 1080p "STEAMING"?

Embrace change. Just how many of you own and Ipod? How many of you own and Ipad? Take a look, and long hard look, at how the Ipod changed the music industry.
