New EX1 Model?

Then you Google "PMW EX1R" and all it pulls up is this post!! LOL.! As for the back illuminated CMOS sensors, well I noticed at the end they said that they were for the Sony "Consumer use" Camcorders. So I would not get too excited there either.

I think that while they will have been testing reverse lit CMOS in their consumer cams, they have started to use it in their higher end DSLR cams as well now, so it is likely that they will use it in their future CMOS based pro cameras. There is meant to be a full stop of sensitivity gain.

Maybe they will be smart and trade that sensitivity gain for a decent near IR filter on the sucker like the Tiffen... The more I look at this IR issue the more I see that while it may be most apparent in the blacks, it does effect the whole image...

Pretty impressive hey, a CINEALTA camera that can't even properly handle tunsten light sources.... I think we would much rather a slightly reduced red gamut than the corruption of the rest of the spectrum...

Even if it's not the new sensor type, it seams odd that a new EX1R model exists and that it needs a new EC document - this the document that sates that a certain electronic device complies to the European Union rules, kind of like the FCC mark on the US...

Yep, nothing here that excites me. Reminds me of the TRV900 upgrade to the TVR950... they added Blu-tooth. :)
The only real exciting thing they could do is add 240fps at 1080P... that would be worth something.

Image flip is important to those wanting to use 35mm adapters.
If they replaced HDSDI instead of just adding HDMI, that would be sort of
a bummer. Looks like no more 10bit 4:2:2 output option.
Not a deal breaker though. I doubt many connect this cam to a Kona/Xena card anyway.

If they got rid of HD-SDI...MAJOR bummer. By hooking this cam up to a Nanoflash or
AJA Ki Pro suddenly you are sending an uncompressed 4:2:2 signal to either device (instead of a compressed 4:2:0 to an SXS card or whatever). This makes the cameras signal output something to rival cameras that cost many times more!

All of these look like great improvements. One push S&Q mode? I would love that. When I am shooting in 1080/30p and I want some slow mo, I have to go to 2 different areas of the menu that are deeply placed. It takes 20 seconds to get over there. It's quicker if I am shooting in 720 already, but.... Firmware up by users? Does that mean we can update our own cameras without paying money? Nice. SD recording - still need it, would love it. HDMI - one cable for audio & video, uncompressed straight into a recorder or TV - I was surprised it didn't have it already. Better holdability - greatly appreciated.

And it's a little cheaper. How long is the return policy at B&H? I would switch out in a minute if I could. Though I did buy the 3 year anything goes protection plan that even includes shipping. So I could wait until all the EX1s are sold and just smash my camera and send it in. I may just have to do that... Or go ahead and buy the R as my second camera.

Don't smash your camera! Anything goes never covers this, besides, that's a terrible thing to do. Such a lovely camera.

Too late! I already boxed up all the sad little pieces... So that R model is available now at B&H right?

But seriously folks, B&H told me my house could burn down and I could send in the charred remains. If they can't fix it I get a new one. It's not a Sony protection plan - it's a B&H one.

B&H is THAT good with their warranty extentions? "I did not know that!" My past experience with such plans is that they were all a waste of money and didn't deliver when it came time to make good on a claim.

Here's the short form below. There is a link to a more detailed version on the short one listed under the price of the EX1. It seem to cover anything other than theft.

I will be surprised if Sony abandons its own format in favor of SD card. I mean, if not SxS then MemoryStick. If the latter is too "consumer" than CompactFlash, as Sony did with their latest tapeless recorder for HDV cameras. But SD? This is almost like Blu-ray losing to HD-DVD.
