Looks like a good alternative to something like a CX350 or UX180 for eng/event users. I wonder if it has that nice looking Canon color science so many of us like?

All of their cameras do so it should look nice, especially if it's a more modern high-resolution image for a camcorder.

I always thought it was interesting how many moved away from the video camera concept. It really did make a ton more sense for certain types of video production. This seems like a solid vide camera well worth the price. That price may seem stiff to some bu really once to start adding lenses and other accessories to a DSLR it adds up very quickly. The 15x zoom can be matched by some DSLR super zooms but those also tend to be slower and far from spectacular optics. A built in 15x lens will likely do better than any super zoom lens out there.

No longer in the market for anything like this but if I did a lot of the kinds of video production where people try to chase a mythical camera/lenses they will likely never see then it would be a no brainer.

this looks most excellent.

one thing is the engagement and disengagement on hi frame rate.

I would completely be in 4k and be happy with a bith of hd HFR on one button.

Me thinks this will be a horrific menu dig... In eng terms once a feature is a menu dig it does not exist.

Very nice camera. I am addicted to my 20x zoom, so I do not think I could get by with only 15X. Maybe with the digital zoom and 1080p but the transition from optical would need to by very smooth. Great to see development in this area. Would love to see an upgraded Panasonic 1" offering.

Nice. I would love to see a shootout between it and the XF705 to see if there's any difference in image quality between the two. I'm most interested in the improvements to their auto focus on the XF605.

It has eye-AF so I have a feeling it's already going to be better (using their newer software).

The only DPAF camcorder I ever truly used more than once was the G60 and the DPAF was just like in the mirrorless', which is opposite of how some of their cine cameras perform (but that's also not saying much since the camcorder has a 1" sensor).

I used the XF705's this past weekend on a live event. We ran everything in 1080p and digital 30x zoom with continuous zooming. The transition from digital to optical was unnoticeable and as long as the lens was set at f/4.5 there was no noticeable changes in exposure while zooming. I was surprised and impressed. There was also an additional super zoom setting that could be enabled that would crop in past the 1080p sensor size. That had noticeable sensor cropping artifacts while zooming and the image fell apart fairly quickly.

I used the cameras along with my C300MKII's and I was able to dial the C300MKII's to match almost seamlessly for live switching. I had to pull out some of the red from the blue in the color matrix and shift the slightly in order to keep the blue wash from going purple, but that is a standard problem with the C300MKII. Considering that the XF605 costs the same as one of my much more limited CN-E compact servo zooms, the XF605 is very tempting.

Thanks for your info. All of my long lens work is in 1080p. 4k would only be used for ultra wide shots with the option to zoom in to just a wide shot in post. If the XF605 is up to the same level then it might be a great option. My PX270s are still very nice but I would like to compare the new camera to the older tech.

This is tempting. I have been wanting a 2nd AG UX180 for matching event work but I've been waiting. I love the UX180 20X lens but the Canon color is nice. Sounds like the digital zoom makes up for only 15X zoom in 1080P but in 4K/UHD it would still be shorter than the 180. Although the Canon 605 might record a sharper image. I suspect the 180 doesn't actually resolve full raster 4K or UHD resolution so possibly the Canon UHD could be zoomed in a tiny bit in post and still be as sharp as the 180.
Ultimately I want 2 matching cameras so looks like the choice may be get another 180 which will save $$ or get 2 Canon xf605. I'll wait a year or so and see how things go and where prices are

or the 605 and a cheaper canon such as a canon 405 or maybe used 705 ? not perfect but worth a consider

Too early to tell for most without actually using one, but on the outside the Canon looks to be better in every way besides having less optical zoom (but it's also unclear how well its digital zoom would compensate).

Most importantly, usually for everyone, is how it's going to look and I would prefer Canon's IQ based on other systems.

The 605 is $1,300 more than the CX350 with arguably better autofocus and some expanded recording options. I happen to like the Pana color palette, but they each have their adherents. I'm thinking when the side by side comparison footage is out, the perceived image quality will be quite similar (color matching aside).

One nice advantage in the Canon is it has the option of 10-bit 4:2:2 XF-AVC instead of using HEVC (if you didn't want to). I think the CX350 was limited to 4K/30p 10-bit 4:2:2 in the .MOV format and you had to switch to H.265 for the 4:2:0 10-bit for 4K/60p (IIRC because I know there were a few FW updates since its release).
