C100: New Canon Cine-Servo 18-80mm EF Lens Announced $5225 Pre-Orders @Texas Media Systems

If someone went on a Ferarri forum and did nothing but complain about the prices of Ferarris, while other owners discussed what they liked about the cars, the mechanics, the driving experience, etc., followed by incessant posts from one user saying, "Stupid Ferarri, making cars way over priced," again, and again, and again. Well, they'd probably get banned, and rightfully so. It's also insulting that lovecameras is implying we're all idiots for paying these prices for these products. Posts like that do not contribute to a forum, particularly when to the excess that lovecameras is making these redundant and annoying posts.

One or two posts like that. No big deal. But it's been a lot more than one or two and has gotten to a point where I'm annoyed.

If you're going to troll people, at least be funny. If you're trolling and not funny, then you should be warned and if you don't stop, then banned.

Back on topic...

What is the aperture of the 18-80?

I know it's T/4.4, but that refers to light transmission, so as far as I know the aperture should be a lower number than the T-stop and a better measure of what depth of field the lens can achieve, as as far my understanding goes, f/stop has a different depth of field than an equivalent T-stop (generally speaking).

like the canon guy mentions in the video, t4.4 should be equivalent to f4

Terry - sorry if this has been asked before and answered - but what MB adapter is that on the FS5? And if the Speedbooster Ultra or MKIV, do they indeed power the servo zoom? Also wondering about using on Sony a6300 camera with one of these adapters and it's really good AF system...

Too true. Fantastic analogy Eric.

Lets be honest "lovecameras" does not love cameras. I think his handle should be changed to "lovetrolling"

I know many folks disagree with what I might post as I tend to speak my mind, but as of today he is "Rated helpful 36 out of 389 times"

My latest info on arrival is still around Sept 1st....we have a lot on order and 1 of our shows is looking at getting 8 of them...and they have to have them by mid-September...so we'll see. Also, we plan on putting a few in rentals right away.
If you want to get one, I'd strongly suggest you place a pre-order with Terry...or us at EVS (which is closer to you)....

Jim:

Do you have this lens in rental yet? If so, day and weekly rate? Will Canon give you one just to test rental out for your customers or do you have to wait in line with the rest of us to buy yours?

It is still slated for Sept 1st so no one has any...and the same would go for a rental price...I wouldn't expect a rental rate set until they start shipping.

A Canon CN-e prime is about the same price (a few hundred cheaper) and rents for $170 per day from Lensrentals, $262 for seven days. That should give an idea of rental rates.

Thanks Eric:

Those are at least good ballpark numbers for sample budgets. I have a client who wants to possible book me for four 6 six day in a row sessions for EPK shoots, fingers crossed that the lens becomes available in time for the project.
